Be it known that I, Lotus L. KORAOH, a citizen of the United States. residin in hicago, in the county of ook and btate oflllinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in VVindowlleaning Mechanisms, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to that class of window washers which are adapted to be operated from the inside of a window, for washing or drying or cleaning the outer side of the window panes.
The principal object of the invention is to provide a simple, economical and efficient window washer.
A further object of the invention is to provide a window washer which adapted. to be mounted with facility and operated from the inside of the window in washing and drying or cleaning the outer sides of the window panes of windows of varis'vns dimensions.

In constructing a window-cleaning mechanism in accordance with my invention and improvements, provide a main supporting member or base a, which is, by preference, of angular construction, and provided with an upper longitudinal flange 5 and a bottom longitudinal flange 0, between which is slide ably mounted an inwardly and outwardly longitudinally adjustable lever-supporting bracket or bar a", which is pivotally connect ed with and adapted to support the lever mechanism hereinafter described; and is also adapted to support the lever-operating mechanism, or rack, gear and geanoperating mechanism hereinafter more particularly described. The upper end of the uppermost pair of lever members or bars 42 are connected together and in vertically movable relation to the tool-holding member 22 by means of a transverse connecting and guiding pin 45 which is secured at its opposite ends to said bars, respectively, and extends through and is in sliding engagement with the walls of the elongated vertical slots 28 in the vertical arms 24, of the tool-holding member 22. A'pair of links 46 which are of equal length and parallel. are pivotall y connected at their lower ends with the tool holder 22 and. the adjacent end of the lever 39. by suitable means. such, for instance. as the pivot 39, already described; and the upper ends of the said links are pivotally connected with the lever 42 at a point a short distance from the ends of the latter, by means of a transverse pivot 46'. The levers 38 and 40 are pivotally connected by means of a transverse pivot49 which is parallel with relation to the pivots 43 and 44, and located at the same distance from each of said last named pivots as are the pivots 48 and ll from each other. The levers 36 and 40 are )arallel; and the levers 38 and 4 .3 are parallel. All of said levers and links are spaced apart as indicated in Figs. 2 and 3. and are all so connected that the upprr extremities oi the lovers 38 and 42 more in the same vertical plane in which the lower pivoted ends or axes of the levers 36 and all are located. It follows as a matter of course, that the parts pivots 45, 39 and 41 all move upward and downward in the same vertical plane. The levers 38 and 42 are at all times in'parallel relation; and the lovers :3 and 4-2 are. likewise. always in parallel relation to each other in Whatever position the working parts of the devi e may be while in operation.
The-levers above described extend longitudinallyin vertical planes which are at right angles or rpendicular with respect to the vertical p ane in which the window panes to be operated upon are located. The
esired strength and ri idity is thus afforded, and the Window-c caning tool is held yieldingly and with the desired degree of firmness, in engagement with the outer sur face of the window pane to be operated upon, and is moved with facility into position to engage and operate in an etficient manner upon any desired portion of the outer surface of either the upper or lower window pane, as desired. The bar a! is adapted to be adjusted inward or outward with respect to the window and with respect to the main supporting member a, so as to be in the most advantageous position when the window pane of the lower sash is to be cleaned or operated upon. as well as when the window pane of the upper sash is to be operated upon or cleaned. The compressible spring 30 serves to yieldingiy press the tool against the window pane with the desired degree of firmness, with the parts in any position into which they are adapted to be moved in the operation of the device. In some instances the rod to may be dispensed with. and the device successfully operated without being connected with said rod, or with the sash by means of said rod or similar guiding member. \Vhen the rod 11 is not in use the sill serves to uidc the device while it is being moved to iflerent position transversely of the Window.
