Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE W- PRIEST, OF WILMINGTON, DELAWARE, ASSIGNOR TO E. I. DU PONT be NEMOURS Q; COMPANY, OF WILMINGTON, DELAWARE, A CORPORATION 01 DELAWARE.
LINOLEUM COMPOSITION AND PROCESS OF MAKING SAME.
Specification of Letters Patent.
No Drawing. Original application filed August 8, 1917, Serial No. 185,015. Divided and this application filed September 25, 1918. Seria-I -dio. 255,613.
Making the Same, and do hereby declare that the following is, a full, clear,'and exact descri tion thereof. y invention relates to plastic composltions containing polymerized coumarone, and.
to a process of making the same.
The object of my invention is to provide a process of advantageous character for making linoleum compositions, particularly linoleum cements, and the product thereof.
Further objects of my invention will appear from the detailed description contained hereinafter.
I have found that when previously polymerized Chinese wood oil or tung oil is ground together in any suitable machine, as for example a machine containing friction rolls, with a polymerized product of the coumarone or indene group of compounds at a temperature of 100 C. or below a material is obtained which has characteristics as to its consistency, combining qualities, solubility, etc., which make it more useful as a cement than in the case where the polymerized product of the coumarone or indene group of compounds is added to the Chinese wood oil when heated to above 100 C.
While my invention is capable of being carried out in many different ways, I shall describe only one example thereof hereinafter.
In order to carry out my process I may for example heat two parts of Chinese wood oil or tung oil to 265 C. so as to polymerize the same and produce a jelly-like material. The material thus obtained is allowed to cool and I then mix therewith one part of a polymerized product of the coumarone or indene group of compounds and rind the same together at a temperature 0 100 C. or below thus producing a composition which is elastic, adhesive, coherent and light in color.
This composition may be used for linoleum thereof roll 3. The process which comprises mixing cement by mixing with suitable proportions of igment and ground cork, or woodmeal, as or example Patented June 14,1921.
and applying to a fabric by means of pros I While I havedescribed my invention above an detail, I WlSh it to be understood that many changes may be made therein without departing from the spirit of the same.
This application is a division of my application Serial No. 185,015, filed August 8, 1917.
I claim:
1. The process which comprises mixing together an oil and a polymerized product of the coumarone or indene group of compounds at a temperature not above 100 C.
2. The process which comprises mixing together an oil and a polymerized product of the coumarone or indene group of compounds and grindlng them together between together an oil and a polymerized product of the coumarone or indene group of compounds at a temperature not above 100 C.
and grinding them together between rolls.
4. The process which comprises mixing together polymerized Chinese wood oil and a polymerized roduct of the coumarone or indene group 0 compounds at a temperature not above 100 C.
5. The process which comprises mixing together polymerized Chinese wood oil and a polymerized product of the coumarone or indene group of compounds and grinding them together between rolls.
6. The process which comprises mixing together polymerized Chinese Wood oil and a polymerized roduct of the coumarone or indene group 0 compounds at a temperature not above 100 C. and grinding them to gether between rolls.
7. A composition of matter comprising an oil mixed and ground together with a polymerized roduct of the coumarone or indene group 0 compounds.
8. A composition of matter comprising polymerized Chinese wood oil mixed and ground together with a polymerized product of the coumarone or indene group of compounds.
9. The processwhich comprises mixing together a thickened oil and a. polymerized product of the coumarone or indene group of compounds at a temperature 'not above 100 C.
10. A composition of matter comprising a 15 thickened oil mixed and ground together with a polymerized product of the coumarone or indene group of compounds.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set m hand.
GE RGE W. PRIEST.
