Specification of Letters Patent.

Application filed February 18, 1921. Serial No. 446,007.

To all whom, it may concern. 7 7 Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. SMITH, a citizen of the United States,'residing at New Haven, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new structed in accordance with my invention;

This invention relates to improvements in garters, and particularly in garters for mens use, the object of the invention being a simple construction which can be made at a very low cost of manufacture and which will be as effective as those more expensive, and the invention consists in the construction as hereinafter described andparticularly recited in the claims.

In carrying out my invention I employ an elastic cord 5, to one end of which'I attach a hose-supporting clasp 6 of any approved construction. The opposite end of the cord is formed with a loop 7 Upon the cord, between its ends, is a button 8, through the eyes of which the cord is passed, so that the button has a firm bite upon the cord but may be readily adjusted thereon. In use,.

the clasp 6 is connected with the top of the stocking inthe usual way, the cord passed around'the leg and the loop end a folded around'the cord, between the clasp and the button, and the loop-end returned and the loop engaged with the button, as shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings. The button may be adjusted to adapt the deviceforthewearer, and may be adJusted asoccasion may require to take up for stretching. '1. A garter comprising an elastic cord formed with a loop atone end and provided wlth a hose-supporting clasp at the opposite end, and fa button'mounted 0n the cord between its ends.
