This invention relates to improvements in headlights7 an'object of the invention being to provide an attachment for ordinary head? lights which will operate to prevent glare but allow full road illuminatioii-- A further object is to provide a device ol the character stated which is of transparent colored materia-l so as to color the light rays which are thrown upwardly from the headlight and at the same time permit a full glare of uncolored light rays on the road.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists in certain novel features or construction, and combinations and arrangements of parts, as will ne more fully hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims.

l represents the shell or casing or' an ordinary` headlight which is provided with a grooved edge 3 for the reception of a gasket i against whichthe lens or frame supporting the lens, both of which are omitted for purposes of clearness, are adapted to snugly on the line 6-6 lit to 'render the headlight casing airtight.'
As is common with headlight casings a socket 5 is provided at the rear and center thereof for the reception of an electric lamp 6.

My improved device or attachment is in reality a light controlling and ray diffusing' device and is composed preferably of celluloid, although it may be made oil any other suitable transparent or semi-transparent material. The material is preferably reen in color, although it lis. of course. be understood that l do not limit *myself to the particular color of the transparent material as itvmay he of any color which will answer the purpose.

l. An attachment tor headlights comprising a body of general cylindrical form ineiudng a tapering inner end adapted to inclose a lamp, said body composed of colored im transparent material, said body having a semi-cylindrical cutaway portion in its upper side, and having` a semi-circular opening 1n the lox'rerhalf of the outer end.
2. The combination with a headlight shell 125 .or casing, a socket in the center thereof, and
y 'a lamp in the socket. of a hollow cylindrical bod a sleeve or collar at the inner end of the ody positioned on the socket, said body hazen/te having an open top and an open lower outer end, a metal strip secured to the body and connected to the casing, and a brace connecting the lower portion of the body `with said strip.
3. The combination with a headlight shell or casing, a socket in the center thereof, and a lamp in the socket. of a hollow cylindrical body, a sleeve or collar at the inner end of the body positioned on the socket, said body having an oyien top and an openlower outer end, a meta strip secured to the body and connected to the casing, and a brace connecting the lower portion of the body `v,vith said strip, said casing having a slot therein, and said strip having a bendable portion at its outer end projected through the slot.
4. An attachment of the character described, comprising a body ofgeneral cylindrical form, said body having a tapering or conical inner end, a ring or sleeve in the cen- Ater of said inner end, said body having the lower portion of its outer end open, and said body having an opening or cut-ont portion between its ends which extends substantially halfway around the body.
