- This invention relates to lamps, and more particularly to an electric lamp utilizing a battery as its energizing orV exciting supply source, and an object of the invention is to provide a relatively slight portable lamp which may be conveniently carried about and one which is particularly designed for use in residences where kerosene lamps are generally used, it being particularly adapted :tor use as a bedroom lamp, for enabling the'user to have suiiicient light to prepare for retiring without the inconveniences contingent with the use of a kerosene lamp, such as the lighting of the lamp by matches, keeping. the lamp properly supplied with fuel, the inconvenience of procuring the match when the user does not have one, as well as several other inconveniences incidental with the use of kerosene lamps.

To all whom t may concern Be it known that l, linnen Genoma, a citizen oi' the United States, residing at Randolph, in the county ci Cedar and `State ot' Nebraska, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lamps, or which the following is a specification,
This invention relates to lamps, and more particularly to an electric lamp utilizing a battery as its energizing orV exciting supply source, and an object of the invention is to provide a relatively slight portable lamp which may be conveniently carried about and one which is particularly designed for use in residences where kerosene lamps are generally used, it being particularly adapted :tor use as a bedroom lamp, for enabling the'user to have suiiicient light to prepare for retiring without the inconveniences contingent with the use of a kerosene lamp, such as the lighting of the lamp by matches, keeping. the lamp properly supplied with fuel, the inconvenience of procuring the match when the user does not have one, as well as several other inconveniences incidental with the use of kerosene lamps.
A. further object of the invention is t provide an electric lamp as specilied which comprises a relatively large base adapted to support the lamp in an upright position, which base has the battery inclosing cell of the lamp detachably connected thereto to provide a top plate for the lamp which carries a slidable switch mechanism for controlling the energizing of the light bulb which is carried by a suitable socket supported by the battery inclosing shell or housn10'.
t urther object of the invention is to provide a lamp as specified which may be used in lieu of an ordinary flashlight lor a dark room light in photographic work, andL one in which a new battery may be easily placed when the original therein becomes spent or exhausted.
Other objects of the invention will appear from the following detailed description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, forminoa part of this specification and in which drawing:

Referring more particularly to the drawines, wherein like characters indicate like and corresponding parts throughoutthe several views, the supporting `base ot the lamp is indicated the numeral 10 and it is preferably constructed of any suitable type trical conductive material is attached to the upper surface of the supporting base 10 at 'he center thereof, and its upstanding sides are threaded for threadably engaging the collar l2 which is carried by the lower end oi'- the shell or sleeve 13. rEhe shell or sleeve 13 is extended in an upright position from the base 10 and it is constructed of any suitable typeoi' insulating material, such as fiber. V The threaded collar 12vis attached to the lower endV of ithe insulating shell 13 by rivets or analogous fastening devices as shown at 1l. A similar collar 15 is attached at the upper end of the shell 13` and this collar 15 is threaded for connection with the threadedl flange or guide lil of a socket member 17. The socket member 17 is attached by means of rivets 18 and the rivets 18V to the top 19 of a lamp. The top 19 is constructed oi any suitable type or". insulating material and is provided with a recess 2Q in its under surface and formed centrally therein. The recess 20 receives therein the upper end oi a helical spring 21, the lower apex end of which bears againstthe central contact 22 of the battery structure 23, which battery is contained within the shell 13. The spring in connected to the top 19 of the lamp, by rivets 24: of electrical conducting material which rivets also connect the switch carrying plate 25 to the .cover 19, establishing electrical conducting communication between the spring 21 and the plate 25 and consequently between the said plate and the contact 22 of the battery 23. The plate 25 has upstanding guide flanges 26 formed thereon and an upstanding stop flange 27 The guide iianges 26 have their upper edges inturned for engaging the upper edges of the longitudinal ribs formed along the sides of the slidable switch member 28, the sliding movement of which is limited in one direction by the stop flange 27. The sliding switch member or button 28 has a recess 30 in its under Vsurface at its outer forward .of insulating material.
