Description

IBYAN.
' TANK.
APPLICATION FILED AUG-r1919- I Patented May. 17, 1921.
2 SHEETS-SHEET UNITED STATES THOMAS RYAN, 0F JENKS, ALABAMA.
TANK.
Application filed August 1, 1919.
T 0 all whom it nmy concern:
Be-it known that I, THOMAS RYAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Jenks, in the county of Tulsa and State of Oklahoma, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tanks; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of ref erence marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in knock-down tanks, and especially'in the provision of a tank made up of sections which are fastened together without the formation of holes, the marginal edges of the plates being held together by clamping means and packing strips, thus making a Water tight joint.
The invention comprises various details of construction, combination and arrangement of parts which will be hereinafter fully described. shown in the accompanying drawings and then specifically defined in the appended claim.
My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings which, with the letters of reference marked thereon, form a part of this application and in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a tank made in accordance with my invention.
Fig. 2 is a detail in elevation partly in section, Fig. 3 isa detail. vertical sectional view through the joint andtank, Fig. 4 is a bottom plan View, Fig. 5 is a large detail in elevation, Fig. 6 is a detail sectional perspective, and Fig. 7 is a detail vertical section through the lower portion of the tank.
Reference now being had'to the details of the drawings by letters:
A designates the plates forming the side wall of the tank, the edges of said plates being bent upon themselves to form flanges A. Said plates are spaced apart from one another and circumferential sectional bands F of metal surround the tank and cover the meeting spaces between the plates; Packing strips E are placed over the slots between the plates preferably upon the inner side of the tank. and a band H, either of one piece or in Specification of Letters Patent.

section, is placed against the packing strips and bolts I are passed through registering apertures in the bands H and F inside and outside the tank and between the spaces intermediate the plates A. The bands F are recessed upon one face thereof to receive the flanges A of the plates A, which flanges fit tightly in said recesses. parts are secured together by the bolts I a water-proof joint is afforded.
Interiorly disposed angle bars L cover the spaces between the tank bottom K and the lower ends of the adjacent plates A, and at the bottom of the tank on the inside is a band L, triangular in cross section, which is apertured for the reception of the bolts and screwsT which pass through the space intermediate the bottom and sides, and also through an aperture in the angle band sections L. Nuts S are fitted to the bolts which pass through said angle bands and form means whereby the sections may be drawn tightly together.
- When the bottom is made up of sections, bars R upon the inner and outer sides of the tank bottom cover the meeting edges and are held together by bolts in the same manner as before described.
By the provision of a tank made in accordance with my invention, it will be noted that a water-proof seamed receptacle is provided and which may be made up without the necessity of boring holes through any of the plates, the latter being clamped by the means shown with packing strips, making water tight joints.
What I claim to be new is:
A sectional plate construction comprising plates having their proximate edges bent back against the-planes of the plates forming marginal thickened ribs, a keeper having marginal flanges properly proportioned to engage the'ri'bs therebetween, a band spanning the interval between the plates opposite the keeper, a gasket interposed between the band and the plates. bolts passed between.
