To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that 1, WILLIAM R. MUNsoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sharon, in the county of Mercer and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Detachable Rainproof Tops for Baby-Carriages, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to attachments for baby carriages and has for its object the provision of a detachable rain-proof cover which may be quickly and easily applied or re moved when desired, the device including a plurality of stays or rods carried by clamping members engaged upon the usual guide rods provided at the sides of the carriage for adjustment of the position of the ordinary top.

An important object is the provision of a device of this character in which a novel clutch mechanism is provided for gripping the rods which hold the top in position, the rods being foldable whereby the whole device may be collapsed when said clutch mechanism is released.

An additional object is the provision of a device of this character which will be simple and inexpensive in manufacture, highly efiicient in use, durable in service, and a eneral improvement in the art.

ith the above and other objects and advantages in view the invention consists in the details of construction to be hereinafter more fully described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation showing my device applied,

Referring more particularly to the drawings, the letter A designates a baby carriage having the usual adjustable hood B mounted upon the guide rods C secured upon the sides of the carriage.

a cover 10 formed of suitable water-proof fabric which is adapted to extend from the lower rear edge of the carriage over the hood, downwardly from the forward portion thereof to the upper edge of the dash portion, and then downwardly to the lower edge of the front. At its ends this cover 10 is provided with suitable snap fasteners 11 cooperating with other fasteners 12 secured at the bottom portion of the carriage. The cover 10 is provided with a glass or celluloid pane 13 which is located in advance of the hood B, as clearly shown.

In order that this cover may be properly supported I provide a plurality of Ushaped rods 14, 15, and 16 which extend respectively to the rear edge of the body of the carriage, above the forward edge of the hood B, and to the upper edge of the front or dash portion and these rods are suitably connected with the cover. These rods, 14, 15 and 16 are held in position by having their converging ends engaged between disks 17 mounted upon a bolt 18, one disk being provided with radial ribs 19 between which the respective rods are engaged. Threaded upon the bolt 18 is a nut 21 against which one disk engages and the other disk is engaged by a wing nut 22 threaded upon the end of the bolt. It will be understood that this bolt structure is the same at both sides of the carriage. Also engaged upon each bolt 18 are spaced washers 23 engaged by nuts 24 and disposed in clamping engagement with the guide rods C at the sides of the carriage.

When the cover 10 is placed in position and the snap fasteners 11 and 12 engaged, and the rods 14, 15, and 16 are properly positioned and the wing nuts 22 tightened to clamp the meeting ends of the rods, the cover will be held firmly in position, as clearly shown in Figs. 1 and 2.

The edges of the cover are provided with snap fasteners 25 with which are engageable other snap fasteners carried by the edges of side curtains 26 which are adapted to inclose the sides of the carriage. Each side curtain 26 has a cut-away portion 27 closed ordinarily by a detachable flap 28 which may be removed to permit access to the interior of the buggy without removing the cover 10.

When the use of the device is not desired, it is apparent that the side curtains 26 may be readily removed by disengaging the proper snap fasteners, after which the wing nuts 22 are loosened, whereupon the rods 14,

and 16, together with the entire cover 10 may be removed, the cover and rods being then folded into small space. i

From the foregoing description and a study of the drawings it will be apparent that I have thus provided a simple inclosing cover structure for entirely covering a baby carriage or buggy whereby to protect the same in inclement weather, the device being readily set up or removed and being strong and substantial in construction.

While I have shown and described the pre ferred embodiment of my invention, it is of course to be understood that I reserve the right to make such changes in the form, construction, and arrangement of parts as will not depart from the spirit of the invention the top of the front portion of the carriage,

An attachment for baby carriages comprising a cover of flexible material extending under the front, over the hood of the carriage, and along the backthereof with its ends and sides detachably connected with the carriage body, and means for holding said cover taut comprising a bolt extending over each side of the carriage, a disk movably mounted upon said bolt, a second disk pro vided on one face with pairs of spaced ribs, a

plurality of U-shaped stay rods secured to the inside of said cover at spaced intervals and having their terminals formed as eyes revolubly engaged upon said bolts, said rods being disposable between said pairs of ribs whereby to be held against rotatable movement, and a clamping disk mounted upon each bolt and engagingthe adjacent rods for holding them between said ribs.
