and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form apart of this specification.
The object of this invention is to provide a novel construction of plier wrench embodying a peculiar construction, whereby arapid adjustment of the movable jaw, with reference to the stationary jaw, is possible; and embodying also a novel construction for xtracting nails, and furthermore, an additional structure, making it possible to cut or break wire.
The invention has finally for its object certain refinements of structure and felicitous combination of parts going to make up the ultimate perfection of the wrench in its entirety, as will hereafter more fully appear in the specification. I
An exemplary form of the invention is disclosed in the accompanying drawing, in which like reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views.

Referring now in detail to the drawing: 2
1 and 2 designate the handles of the wrench, the former of constructed integral with a head 3, carrying the stationary jaw 4 The handle 2 constitutes a lever which is fulcrumed, toward one which is preferably end thereof, on a pin 5 passing through the head 3 and through a longitudinally extendmg slot 6 in said lever. v
r The extremity of the lever 2, adjacent the fulcrumed end thereof, is formed with teeth 7, engageable with rack teeth 8 of a rack bar 9, slidable transversely of the stationary jaw 4 and the movable jaw 10 preferably made integral with said rack bar 9.
The lever 2, between the fulcrum pin 5 and the teeth 7, is provided on opposite faces with transversely extending grooves 11, 11, shown most clearly in the detail view in Fig. 5.
A. pin 12 is carried by the'head 3, and a similar pin 13 is carried by a plate 14, disposed under onev face of the head 3 and the corresponding faceof the rack bar 9-. hen the lever 2 is moved in a direction away from the stationary handle 1, one of the grooves, in this instance shown in full lines in Fig. 1, engages one of the pins,which pin, in the position of the lever 2 as shown'in Fig. 1, is the pin 13. Should the position of the lever 2 be reversed, the other groove 11 will, in the movementrof said lever,.engage the other pin 12,
as is obvious. It will thus be seen that the lever 2' is reversible and may be used" in either one of two positions with equal efliciency to suit the requirement of the particularoperator, who may desire to use the wrench having the handles 2 and 1 convergently curved, or curved away from each other.
. The .head 3 is, of-course, appropriately provided with a recess 15 for the reception of the corresponding end of the lever 2. The bottom ofrsaid recess 15, toward one end thereof, is transversely broached, as shown at 16, for the reception of the rack bar 9.

It will be seen that by moving the lever 2 toward the handle 1, so that the pins 12 disengaged from the grooves 11, 11, said lever maybe pulled longitudinally to disengage the teeth 16 of the lever from the teeth of the rack bar, whereupon the rack bar, with its movable jaw, may be withdrawn for the purpose of inserting a rack bar, carrying a larger jaw, or purpose. In such longitudinal the lever 2, the pin 5 the lever.
What I claim to be new is:
1. A wrench comprising a stationary jaw and a movable jaw, the lattercarrying a rack bar, a handle carrying a head formed for any other movement of slides in the slot 6 of integral with said stationary jaw, and a lever having a toothed end engaging the pro ecting through polnts on one edge thereof,

A wrench comprising a handle having a head, a stationary jawintegral with said head, a movable jaw carrying a reel: bar, and a lever having a toothed end engaging and fnlcrumed on said head, and provided with transversely extending grooves on opposite faces thereof, and pins carried by said head, one or said. pins being engageable with one of said transversely extending grooves in the movement of said lever, and the other of said pins being engageable with the other of said grooves when said lever is reversed, said lever bemg provided with a longltudmally extending slot, and, 'a fulcrum pin carried by said head and passing through said slot.
