To all whom it may concern I I Be it known that I, l VESLEY, H. PARKS, a citizen of the United States of America, and resident of Bixby, in the county of" Tulsa and Stateof Oklahoma, have invented certain new and useful Improvements: in Combined Displayin and Dispensing Devices, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to'combined displaying and dispensing stands. for store furniture, the said inventionv having for its object the provision of novel means whereby cloth, and particularly oilcloth and the like may be supported on. a rollwhlch roll may be rotated to unwind the contents: for the purposeof dispensing the same, the said device having anovel arrangement whereby the rolls may be supported in superimposed positions to occupy comparatively little space, while, at the same time, the commodity may be; inspected by a proposed purchaser without interfering with-anyof the other rolls. I

Anobject ofthis invention is to provide novel .means for rotatably mounting spindies in proximity to one another, and the provision of novel means for holding an and of the material to be wound on a roller during the preliminary winding thereof so as to guide the commodity such as oilcloth or other cloth to the spindle while the same is being rota-ted.

A still further object of this invention is to provide novel means whereby the spindles may be turned to wind the cloth thereon for storage, the said invention also contemplat ing the provision of novel means comprismg a combined guide and severing element whereby a cloth may be cut or torn on a straight line.

A still further object of this invention is to produce a severing device having novel means whereby the members thereof may swing automatically with relation to each other so that the members are separated for the passage of the cloth between the said members, novel means being also provided for holding them in closed relation during the severing operation.

With the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists in the details of construction, and in the arrangement and combination of parts to be hereinafter more fully set forth and claimed.

Each-spindle'13 has aspool 14 mounted on it and rotatable with it, and said spool has clips 15 each of which is anchored at one end by a fastening 16 such as a screw, rivet or the like and these clips are intended to engage the material to be wound on the spool as the spindle is rotated, it being seen by an inspection of the drawing that the spindle is angular in cross section as at 17 to receive the socket of a crank handle 18 by which the spindle is rotated for storing the material on the spool.

As has been stated, the spindle is journaled or rotatably mounted in the posts or standards of the frame and they are free to be turned in either direction as when the material is wound thereon or pulled therefrom.

In the modification shown inv Figs. 4: and 5, a spindle 19 has the clips 20 secured directly to it and the spool is dispensed with, but this is an immaterial detail under many conditions and can be made according to the requirements in practice.

In dispensing the commodity which is wound on the spindle, there is provided for each spindle a cutting or dispensing device, or if desired, one such cutting or dispensing device may be employed in connection with any one of a plurality of spindles, and hence the said cutting device may be movably held in operative relation to the spindles.

Theposts 11 and 12 have a plurality of apertur'ed plates 21, the apertures of which are intended to receive angularly disposed ends 22 of the resilient hanger 23, one such hanger being applied to each end of the bar 24 which constitutes what may be termed the base of the cutting device.

The base has a coacting member: 25 connected to its end by a hinge 26 and this coacting member has a knife 27 attached to its face by fastenings 28 such as screws or rivets, and the said knife has its Cutting edge 29 extending below the joint between the base 24 and the member 25 and in contact with the face of said base, as fully shown in Fig. 6, so that when the material which has been pulled from a roll lies between the two elements of the cutting de vice, the said material may be manipulated so as to draw it against the cutting edge of the knife for severing it.

The members of the cutting device are held in close contact with the material by a clip 30 consisting of a strip of metal hav ing one'portion 31 rotatably mounted in a housing 32 secured on the underside of the base, the said clip having a central portion which overlies the face of the base and its coacting member when it is in operative position-and terminating in a yieldable extremity 33 which overlies the top of the coacting member so that the parts will thus be held as shown in Fig. 6. When the coacting member is to be released from the base, the clip will be swung outwardly toward the end of the coacting member and the relation of parts is such that the clip may be swung free of the coacting member and the base in order that one may be swung with relation to the other on the hinge which has been described.

' As a means for assisting in the separation of the base and its coacting member so that they will automatically separate to permit the drawing of other material from the roll, a spring 34 is interposed between the two members, and the said spring lies in a seat 35 of the base and in a seat 36 of the coacting member and is of such strength as to be effective to swing the coacting member on its hinge. ' By reason of the construction of the device just described, asalesman may; move the severing device from one roll to another if he desires or a plurality of the severing devices may be employed on one rack. F urthermore, the clip or clamp may be manipulated to hold the base and its coacting member together or it may be moved to release these elements so that the spring may'operate to separate them.

I claim:

In a combined displaying and dispensing device, a frame having end posts, spindles journaled in the posts, apertured plates on the outer surfaces of the posts alternating with relation to the spindles, a cutter and resilient hangers at the ends of said cutter having extensions projectinginto the apertures of the lates and removably applied thereto where y the cutter may be suspended in operative relation to any one of the spindles.
