,UNlTED STATES ROY J'. MAXWELL, OF BUTLER, INDIANA.
BOG-FEEDER.
Specification of'Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 19, 1921.
Application led October 25, 1919. Serial No. 333,239.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, ROY J. MAXWELL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Butler, in the county of Dekalb and State of lndiana, have invented a new and useful Hog-Feeder, ofwhich the following is a specification. i
This invention relates to stock feeding devices and is particularly adapted to the feeding of hogs.
The object of the invention is to provide a simple cheaply constructed stock feeder that may be adjusted to discharge food in greaterV or less quantities or for handling food stuffs having different physical char acteristics.
With these and other objects in view, appearing as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the novel form and arrangment of parts to be more specifically pointed out and claimed, it being understood that slight changes may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit, or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
In the drawing Figure 1 is a view partly in longitudinal section and partly in elevation;
Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view.
Referring particularly to the drawings by characters of reference the numeral 1 designates a base frame having a feeding trough 2. Standards 3 are mounted atV either end of the frame 1, diagonal braces 4L extend to the frame 1 and support the standards 3.
A beam 5 extends longitudinally between the standards 8 and is braced by corner brackets 6. A hopper 7 having downwardly convergent side walls 8, an opening 9 at the bottom and hinged lid 11 at the top. f
The hopper 7 is provided at its ends with uprights 12. Apertures 13 in the upper ends of the uprights 12 receive-the bearing end 14 of hangers 15, said hangers being provided with a threaded shank 16 which eX- tends through the beam 5. A washer 17 rests on the beam 5 and a hand wheel 18 threaded on the shank 16 is used to raise or lower the hopper.
The lower open end of the hopper is adapted to swing in the trough 2 and the space between the openingy 9 and the trough is adjusted by means of the hand wheels 18, to vary the amount of feedto be released from the hopper.
Feed in the hopper is caused to move down and choking of the outlet 9 is prevented by the jarring and shaking of the hopper by the animals in feeding.
Racks 19 at the sides of the trough an-d having partitions 2O provide a number of separate feeding compartments and prevent crowding of the hogs while feeding.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is In a device of the class described a frame including end standards and a cross beam connecting the standards; a trough; a hopper spaced above the trough, said hopper having uprights adjacent the standards and means for adjusting the space between the hopper and the trough, said means comprising a threaded shank extending through the cross beam, a threaded member engaging the shank and resting on the beam and a bearing projecting at right angles from the shank and extending through the upright on the hopper, the space between the end of the bearing and the standard being less than the thickness of the upright.
ln testimony that l claim the foregoing as my own, l have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
nor J. MAXWELL.
