HAROLD G. ROOD, OF BRIDGEPORT, CONNECTICUT.
HOSE-SUPPORTER CLASP.
T 0 at whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HARoLn C. R001), a citizen of the United States, and residentof Bridgeport, in the county of Fairfield and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hose-Supporter Clasps, of which the following is a specification.
This invention generally relates to hose supporter clasps, wherein a button and loop are used as the clamping elements, and refers .more particularly to improvements in the buttons and in such clasps.
The object of the invention is to provide a wire button member which may be made of a single piece of wire and to include a base having the customary loops and having a central stud with an integral head to design the button so that it may be rapidly produced in quantities by an automatic wire machine when fed from a coil of wire, so that no second or further operations are necessary to complete the button.
It is a further feature of this invention to adopt it for use with or without the customary rubber head or covering for the stud which is employed to form a soft engagement for the garment with which it is engaged, and with these and other objects in view the invention resides and consists in the combination of parts hereinafter fully described and particularly pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification:
Figure 1 shows a front perspective view of a commercial type of gentlemens hose supporter, having two clasps each of which include one of my improved wire buttons.
Fig. 2 shows a detached perspective view of one of the wire buttons as employed in the upper left hand portion of the supporter shown in Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a cross sectional view through the button, taken on line 3-3 of Fig. 2 and Fig. 4 shows a similar cross section through the button as provided with a rubber covering and as further shown at the bottom in Fig. 1.
As illustrated in Fig. l, the invention is shown applied to a commercial form of gentlemhns hose supporter, but it will be obvious that the button can be used in connection with various other'forms of garment supporters especially where a button and loop form of clamp are to be used.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application fil ed October 29, 1920. Serial No. 420,357.
Referring to Fig. 1, A represents the front piece of the hose supporter shown therein and B the leg encircling web member, one end of which 1s secured to the front piece A and the other end being provided with an attached wire loop C for engagement with my improved form of button 5 and which is shown secured to a short piece of webbing D stltched to the front piece A. The supporter is further provided with a depending clamp E whlch is adapted to engage the top edge of a hose, and which is of the usual general construction except that the button employed therein is constructed in accordance with my invention. This clamp in cludes a member E which is secured to the front piece and serves to support the button and further includes a wire loop member G, one end of which is hingedly connected with the front piece and the other positioned t" engage the shank of the button.
As before stated, my improved button is formed complete of a single piece of wire, except when a rubber headed button is desired in which case, the particular design of rubber button may be simply and effectively applied after the button is formed. Generally speaking the button includes a base portion 6 including parallel elongated loops or slots 7 for the attachment of the tape and further includes a centrally arranged shank 8 having a head 9 for engagement by the wire loop G formin the associated element of the clamp. It Wlll be further noted that the head of the button is formed of one end of the wire and the shank immediately beneath the head is formed of the adjoining end portion of the wire, while the remaining intermediate portion of the wire is specially bent to form the slots 7 before mentioned and that the other endportion 10 of the wire is disposed in parallel with and against that portion of the Wire immediately adjoining the shank so that the two constitute a central body of the base upon one side of the shank while the loop portion 11 of the wire on the opposite side of the stud forms the remaining central portion of the base.
In practice the different features of the button may be made in whatever order desired and best suited to the construction of an automatic machine, but I have found it preferable to leave the swaging of the shank end of the wire for the formation of the head, as the last and final operation.
This method of manufacture would naturally be followed When a rubber member 12 shown in Fig. 4 is to be employed and in Which case the threading of the rubber tips upon the shank is done by hand and the sWaging of the head to hold the rubber tip in place is done on a separate machine from that Which formed the other portions of the button.
Having thus described my invention, What I claiman'd desire to procure by Letters Patent, is:
A garment supporter button of the class described consisting of a single piece of Wire shaped to form a base and a shank extending therefrom, I said base comprlslng parallel members, a loop contiguous with one end of each of said members, and parallel end portions contiguous with the opposite ends of each of said members, said loop and end portions arranged opposite each other and located in alinement and between said parallel members to provide parallel slots between said members and portions respectively, and said shank being an extension of one of said parallel end portions and arranged between said slots and end and loop portions, respectively.
Signed at Bridgeport in the county of Fairlield and State of Connecticut this 26th day of October, A. D. 1920.
