Be it known that I, JOSEPH A. CYPERT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kansas City, in the county of Jackson and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hair-Cutters Combs, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

The invention relates to combs for use in cutting the hair of persons, and has pro vided a comb that is more easily held by the barber in the desired position.

It is well understood that approximately one half of the comb serves as a handle when employed in cutting hair, while the remaining half of the comb is passed through the hair in order to raise the hair from the head so that it may be cut to the desired length, it being optional with the one cutting the hair whether the fine teeth or the coarse teeth of the comb are employed in the hair, the opposite end of the comb from that used in the hair always serves as the handle.

It is understood that the comb is held in a position with the teeth thereof pointing in an upwardly position and leaning toward the head from which the hair is cut, and it is well known to those who cut hair. that the leaning position of the comb requires an unnatural and tiresome twist of the wrist of the one who holds the comb.

The present invention has provided a comb for use in cutting hair, with a twist near the center of the length thereof so that the teeth of one end of the comb incline in one direction laterally and the teeth of the opposite end of the comb incline in the opposite direction laterally so that one who cuts the hair can hold the comb without an unnatural twist of the wrist.

With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the features of construction, shape, combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter set forth and more particularly pointed out in the appended claims, the accompanying drawings illustrating a form of the improved comb for use in cutting hair.

The back edge 1 of the back 2 of the comb as viewed in Fig. 2 is approximately straight, while the edge 3 of the back has a lateral step at 4 so that the coarse teeth 5 and the corresponding part of the back 2 incline in one direction laterally and the fine teeth 6 and the corresponding part of the back 2 incline laterally in the opposite direc tion.

The axis of the coarse teeth 5 and the axis of the fine teeth 6 form an acute angle when viewed on the sectional line 33 of Fig. 1, the View of either end of the comb being the same, and when viewed in this position the axis of the fine teeth and the axis of the coarse teeth converge along the edge 1 of the back 2 of the comb.

The comb is held by the part comprising the coarse teeth 5 while the line teeth 6 are employed in the hair and by the part comprising the fine teeth 6 while the coarse teeth 5 are employed, and the hand of the barber holding the comb conforms always to the position of the opposite end of the comb to that which is user in the hair.

The part of the comb used in the hair always has considerable more incline toward the head from which the hair is to be out than the part which is held in the hand of the one who cuts the hair, and this incline of the used end of the comb relieves the one who holds the comb of a very tiresome and unnatural twist of the hand or arm that holds the comb.

The improved comb enables the barber to cut hair with ease and pleasure, while the ordinary comb is very tiresome to hold in the required position.
