Description

. VAN BUREN.
INKSTAND. APPLICATION FILED APR; 9, 1920.
Patented Mar. 15, 1921.
ATTORNEY WITNESSES UNITED STATES MARTIN VAN BUBEN, 0F DAYTON, WASHINGTON.
INKSTAND.
Specification of Letters Patent.
latented Mar. 15, 1921.
Application filed April 9, 1920. Serial No. 372,513.
To all 10 7mm it may concern Be it known that I, BTAiTIN VAN Bunnx, a citizen of the United States, residing at Dayton, in the county of Columbia and State of Vashington, have invented new and useful Improvements in lnkstands, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in ink wells and the principal object of the invention is to provide a normally closed cover for the well with means whereby the same may be quickly and easily raised to permit access to the well.
Another object of the invention is to provide a front member for the well which is provided with an opening to permit the pen point to enter the ink within the well.
The invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1. is a side view of the invention.
Fig. 2 is a rear view.
Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section.
Fig. 4 is a detail view.
In these views 1 indicates the body of the device which is preferably made of glass.
This body is provided with the well 2 for 1 receiving the ink and it is also provided with the arms a extendlng from one side thereof and provided with the curved recesses for holding the pen holder.
The well is provided with a cover 5, the hinge arm 6 of which is connected with. the standard 7 so that the cover will be held in closed position by the action of gravity.
The standard 7 is suitably secured to the rear side of the body.
The means for raising the cover consists of a member 8 pivotally connected with the upper part of the body by the stud 9 and having its front part bent and extending forwardly beyond the body so that it may be easily pressed upon by the fingers. The rear part of the member is bent at right angles to extend along the rear side of the body and is connected with the hinge arm so that when the front part of said member is depressed by the finger the rear part will be raised to lift the hinge arm and the cover. Thus the pen may be dipped in the V ink within the well and as soon as the finger is removed from the lifting member the cover will close. I locate a float 10 within the well, said float being made of any suitable material and is of hollow construction. It is provided with a centrally located opening through which the pen point may pass and the upper face is concaved as shown.
By my invention a neat and eifective device is provided and in which the ink is prevented from evaporating as the cover remains in closed position. until manually raised by the user.
The arms a may be arranged on the oppo site side of the well to make the device handy for a. left hand person. By the use of the closing cap dust and dirt are prevented from getting into the Well. 7
it is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will bereadily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction andin the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim is An ink well of the class described com-'- prising a body having a well therein, a cover for the well, a stand at the rear of the body having an upper offset portion, a hinge arm connected with the cover and engaging the offset portion, a lifting rod pivoted intermediate its ends to one side of the body and having its rear end bent at an angle and engaging the hinge arm adjacent its point of connection with the standard and its front end bent at an angle to form a finger engaging part.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
