Be it known that I, THOMAS Brmonss, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Danvers, county of Essex, Commonwealth of Massachusetts, have invented Improvements in Hobby-Horses, of which the following description, in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a specification,

This invention relates to hobby horses and more particularly to a toy or hobby horse that is adapted to be used as a rocking horse, and is quickly and easily convertible into a run horse that may be propelled along on rollers by the child rider somewhat after the fashion of a kiddie car. A principal object of the invention is to provide an improved detachable mounting of the horse figure constituting the seat for the rider, upon a rocker base, so that it is strongly and securely locked to such rocker base when the device is to be used as a rocking horse, and is at the same time instantly and easily detachable from the rocker base, by means so simple and easily operated as to be within the capability of the smallest child, who might use the device. The invention will be better understood from the following detailed description, and the distinctive features of novelty will be pointed out in the appended claims.

10 indicates a horse figure equipped with a seat 11 for the rider and with front and rear legs 12, 18 respectively. These legs have mounted at the lower ends thereof, rods 1awhich project beyond the legs at each side and constitute axles upon which are journaled rollers or wheels 15. A rocker base 16 is provided, composed'of side members 16 16 spaced apart a distance so as to fit within the legs 12, 13, and held assembled by means of stout pins 16 at the ends thereof. The side members 16 16 of the rocker base are notched at their tops adjacent the respective ends thereof as indicated at 17, to receive the rods 14 which are adapted to fit quite closely into these notches. \Vhen the rods 1 1 are thus located in said notches, the wheels 15 are held elevated so that they do not project below the bottom of the rocker base 16. The pins 16 have pivoted thereto arms 18, there being as shown one of these arms pivoted intermediate the length of each pin. These arms 18 are equipped with notches 19 in their under sides at the outer ends thereof, constituting hooks adapted to engage with pins 20 secured intermediate the length of the legs 12, 13, these pins 20 serving also to stiffen and'strengthen the structure of the horse figure. The arms 18 are disposed so that they extend diagonally upward and inward'from the rocker base as the hooks 19 are engaged with the pins 20; they thus constitute braces or struts giving great strength and rigidity to the structure when the horse figure is assembled upon the rocker base. These arms 18 as thus engaged are quite secure from any casual displacements, but at the same time they may be'instantly and easily tipped back by the child user, so as to release the horse figure for removal from the rocker base. When so released by merely lifting the horse figure off the rocker, the horse figure is ready without any other attention to be used as a run horse or roller toy and is then entirely free from any impediment that would interfere with its use for this'purpose. The device. so constructed combines simplicity and strength in a high degree, with a capability of manipulation by the smallest and most inexperienced child. 1 am aware that the invention may be embodied in other specific forms without departing from the spirit or essential attributes thereof, and I therefore desire the present embodimentto be considered in all respects as illustrative and not restrictive, reference being had to the appended claims rather than to the foregoing descriptionto indicate the scope of the invention.

Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is: w

1. Apparatus of the kind described comprising a horse or like figure equippedwith a seat and having rods extending across the lower ends of the legs thereof and projecting therefrom, wheels fitted to said projecting rod ends and a rocker base equipped with seats in which said rods are adapted to be detachably fitted, said rocker base having also arms pivoted adjacent the extremity thereof equipped with hooks at their free ends adapted to detachably engage said horse figure to hold itassembled with said rocker base.

and arms pivoted adjacent the respective ends of said rocker base equipped with hooks at their free ends adapted to be swung into locking engagement with said horse figure intermediate the height thereof to constitute bracing struts and also locking means for holding the horse figure fromdisplacement.

Appa 'atus of the kind described comprising a horse or like figure having a seat for a rider, rods borne by the ends of the legs thereof, transverse pins borne by said legs intermediate the length thereof, a rocker base having notches in its top to constitute seats to which said rods are detachably fitted and arms fitted to swing from the ends of said rocker base and having notches at their ends adaptedto engage said pins as said arms extend diagonally upward from the rocker base for the purpose stated.
