To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, Francis Snrcm, citizen of Czecho-Slovakia, residing at Granger, in the county of Williamson and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Burglar-Alarms, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in burglar alarms and has for one of its objects to provide a series of different-sized horns or sirens adapted to give an audible alarm upon the unauthorized opening of a house or other door.
A further object of the invention resides in the provision of a burglar alarm wherein a weighted arm is adapted to be released upon the opening movement of a door or other movable member to open an air tank and permit the sounding of audible alarms.
1V ith the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel form, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described in connection with the accompanying drawings and in which like reference characters indicate similar parts throughout the several views.

Briefly described, the present invention aims to provide a burglar alarm embodying an air tank suspended beneath the floor of a room and having a pipe connection with horns or sirens disposed within the room. A weighted rod is normally held elevated by a latch rod adapted to be released upon the opening movement of a door or other movable member to permit the weighted rod to fall and release a check valve associated with the air tank to permit the air to flow to the sirens and give an audible alarm of the unauthorized opening of the door or movable member.
Referring more in detail to the accompanying drawings, there is illustrated by the numeral 1, a room of a house provided with a door 2. A compartment or well 3'is provided beneath the floor 1 of the room and has arranged in the lower end thereof an air tank 5 provided with a safety valve 6 and charged through the medium oi a pipe 7 entering one end of the tank and extending upwardly through the floor 4 with a charging nozzle 8.
11 check valve is associated with the air tank 5 and is shown in. detail in Fig. 5 as embodying a casing 9 having a pipe connection 10 with the tank while a partition 11 is formed within the valve casing 9 constituting a valve seat against which the check valve 12 normally pressed upwardly by the spring 18 is adapted to engage, the stem 14 of the valve projecting through the upper end of the casing 9 and provided with a packing joint 15.
An apertured boss 16 is carried by one side of the valve casing 9 and has threaded therein the lower end of an air pipe 17, the upper end of which projects through the floor line 1 and supports upon the upper end thereof a cross arm 18. As shown in Fig. 1, the cross arm 18 is provided with an air passage 18 extending to one side of the pipe con nection 17 with the arm 18 while outlet connections 19 of the air passage 18 carry sirens 20 and. 21 of different sizes provided with sounding diaphragms 22. A branch pipe 23 connects with the air pipe 17 at a point below the arm 18 and delivers a supply of air to the relatively large siren 24 supported on the end of the arm 18 and containing a sounding diaphragm 25.
The operating mechanism to release the check valve 12 to permit air in the tank to flow through the pipe 17 to the difierent sirens, includes the mounting of a vertically shiftable rod 26 guided in its vertical movements by guide rollers 27 and carrying at its lower end a block weight 28 and intermediate laterally extending weighted arms 29. The upper end of the rod 26 projects through the floor 1 and is provided with a side notch 30 adjacent the upper end thereof to receive one end of the latch arm 31 horizontally mounted in brackets 32, the other end of which is positioned for engagement with the door.
In the operation of the device, the check valve releasing rod 26 is normally held in the elevated position shown in Figs. 1 and 2 and so retained against the Weights 28 and 29 by the latch arm 31 engaging in the notch 30 of said rod. lVhen the door 2 is opened, the latch arm 31 is released from the rod 26 and the weights 28 and 29 will cause the rod to be lowered with the lower weight 28 engaging the upper end of the valve stem 14 to unseat the valve 12 and permit the air in the tank 5 to pass through the pipe 17, passage 18 in the arm 18 and branch connection 23 to the sirens 20, 21 and 24 thereby giving an audible alarm of the unauthorized opening of the door 2. The'recharging of the tank 5 is eflected through the medium of the pipe 7 and the nozzle connection 8 within the arm 1.
While there is herein shown and described the preferred embodiment of the invention, it is nevertheless to be understood that minor J changes may be made therein Without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
What is claimed as new is:
1. A burglar alarm comprising in combination with a door, a sliding latch arm, a
vertically slidable Weighted rod engaged by said latch arm to be held in an elevated position, an air tank disposed beneath said Weighted rod, an air pipe connected to said tank and extending upwardly therefrom to a point adjacent the door and sirens in communication with said air pipe.
2. A burglar alarm comprising in combination with a door, a sliding latch arm, a vertically slidable weighted rod engaged by said latch arm to be held in an elevated position, an air tank disposed beneath said said latch arm to weighted rod, an air pipe-connected to said tank and extending upwardly therefrom to a point adjacent the door, sirens in communication with said air pipe and a filling pipe for the air tank.
3. A burglar alarm comprising in combination with a door, a sliding latch arm, a vertically slidable be held in an elevated position, an air tank disposed beneath said weighted rod, an air pipe connected to said tank and extending upwardly therefrom to a point adjacent the door, sirens in communication with said air pipe and a check valve interposed between said air pipe and tank adapted to be operated upon the descending movement of the rod to open the valve and permit the air in the tank to flow through the pipe to the sirens.
4;. A burglar alarm comprising in combination with a door, a sliding latch arm, a vertically slidable rod detachably connected at its upper endto said latch arm, a block weight carried by the lower end of said rod, an air-tank disposed beneath said rod, an air pipe extending from said tank to a point adjacent the door, a plurality of sirens associated with the upper end of the air pipe, a check valve connection between the air pipe and tank having the valve stem exposed and adapted to be engaged by said rod Weight when the latch arm is disengaged from said rod to open the check valve and permit the air in the tank to pass through the air pipe to the sirens.
