G. T. MUDD. CHILDS SEAT FOR BARBERS CHAIRS. APPLICATION FILED sEFT. 23. I920.

E noe'utoz PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE E. MUDD, OF BARDSTOWN, KENTUCKY.
GHILDS SEAT FOR BABBERS CHAIRS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 8, 1921.
Application filed September 23, 1920. Serial No. 412,112.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Gnonon T. MUDD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bardstown, in the county of Nelson and State of Kentucky, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Childrens Seats for Barbers Chairs, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a childs seat attachment for barbers chairs and one of the objects of the invention is to provide a device .of this character which will be simple in construction, easy to operate and which when not in use may be folded up in back of the main chair to which it is attached.
With this general object in view my invention consists of certain novel and peculiar features of construction and combination of parts as hereinafter described and claimed; and in order that it may be fully understood, reference is to be had to the accompanying drawing in which:
Figure 1 is an elevation of a barbers chair showing the childs seat in position for use and showing in dotted lines, the seat folded back and out of use.
Fig. 2- is a detached front elevation of the childs seat.
Fig. 3- is a fragmentary section showing the stop-hinge construction which permits folding of the arms.
In the drawings, I have illustrated a conventional barbers chair provided with a seat, 1. back 2, and head rest 3. Rigidly secured to the top of the chair back are a pair of lugs 4, which provide a portion of the means for pivotally and foldably securing the childs seat to the chair. The numeral 5, designates a pair of links of substantially the same 7 or depth of the chair back, the said links being pivotally secured to the aforesaid lugs. Pivotally secured to the links 5, are a pair of back rods 6, which may be given a suitable finish such as a coat of nickel plating. To the lower end of the said rods, seat supporting members 10, are pivotally connected by means of stop hinges 11. Secured to the said seat carrying members 10, is a suitable cushioned seat 7 Pivotally connected to the seat 7, on each side are arm rests 9, supported by the two standards 12, the said length as the thickness.
standards being foldably connected to the seat by means of stop hinges 18.
The operation of my invention is as follows, when it is desired to use the seat to place a child in a convenient position for the barber to cut its hair, the seat is rotated from the folded inoperative position in rear of the back, as shown in dotted lines in the drawing, to the open position as shown in full lines. The link 5, then rests on top of and the rods 6, against the chair back 2. The seat 7, is held in suitable open position by means of the stop hinges 11 and the arm rests are turned up and held in position for the childs use, through the medium of the stop hinges 13.
When the childs chair is no longer desired for use the arm rests 9, are folded down on the seat as shown in Fig. 3, the seat 7 is folded up against the chair back 2, and the childs chair thus folded is rotated rearwardly through approximately 360 to a position in the rear of the main chair back.
In this folded position, the top side of the.
childs seat is facing outwardly, thus making a neater appearance than if the bottom side was exposed to view.
From the above description it will be apparent that my invention possesses the advantages of being constructed of a few parts which are easily produced and assembled and will not readily get out of order. When the chair is not in use, it may be compactly folded out of position and still be conveniently located for ready use.
Nhile I have illustrated and described the preferred form of my invention it will be understood that I reserve the right to all changes falling within the appended claims.
Therefore what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A device of the character described, an auxiliary seat member, an auxiliary back member to which the seat member is rotatably connected, a chair back, means for rotatably connecting the said back member to the top of the chair back, the said seat member adapted to be folded up against the back member and the said members, while in nested position, rotated to inoperative folded position in the rear of the main chair back.
2. Adeviee of the character described, an member, and the said members, While in auxiliary seat member, an auxiliary back nested position, rotated to inoperative foldmember to which the seat member is rotated position in the rear of the main chair 10 ably connected, a chair back, links pivotally back. 7 secured to the top of the chair back and to In testimony whereof I hereby affix my the said back member, the said seat member signature. adapted to be folded up against the back GEORGE T. MUDD.
