Description

J. A. DUGGAN. SANITARY TOOTHBRUSH HOLDER. APPLICATION ZFILED DEC. 16. 1919.
Patented Mar. 8, 1921.
INVENTO R. M04
mTN EssEs.
UNITED STATES 101m a. DUGGAIN, or BATTL oannx, mrcnrean.
SANITARY TOOTHBRUSH-HOLDER.
Application filed December 18, 1919. Serial No.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN A. DUGGAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Battle "Creek, in the county of Calhoun and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sanitary Toothbrush-Holders, of which the following description, taken in connection with the appended claim and accompanying drawing, forms a specification. 7 V
The invention relates to sanitary tooth brush holders and more particularly relates to means for hinging the sanitary brush covers. V
The present invention very particularly relates to that class of tooth brush holders in which ventilated, transparent covers for the brush are employed, the same being suspended on curved wire hinges operative at the ends of arms struck up from a framework or backing, and resting on spring prongs between which the brush is supported, said prongs also being struck up from said framework.
A characteristic feature of the resent invention lies in an offset in the inge-wire that supports the brush cover.
An important object is to so form the curved hinge supports for the brush covers that no difliculty will be experienced in assembling the parts.
In the manufacture of glass utensils it has been found that more or less non uniformity exists in the finished product and is a source of trouble in placing fittings, es pecially when the fittings are formed with exactness and for predetermined sizes of perfect uniformity. With the object in view of overcoming this difficulty by forming a hinge member capable of being readily fitted to either a uniform or non uniform surface, my invention consists in the novel construction and manner of attachment of said hinge member to tooth brush holders of the character set forth, and will hereinafter be more fully explained, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and defined in the appended claim.
In the drawing forming a part of this specification, Figure 1 is a front elevation of a sanitary tooth brush holder comprising three covers, the one to the left containing a tooth brush, the center one tilted outwardly in the manner of receiving a brush, and the one to the right fully closed.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 8, 1921.
Fi 2 is a plan view of the same, excepting t e brush. a Fig. 3 is a side view of a tooth brushholder, the dotted lines showing a cover partially tilted to receive a brush. v f
' ig. 4: is 'a detail plan view of a metallic spring clip or cover hinge.
Like marks of reference refer to corresponding or equivalent parts in the different views, in which '-A represents a framework or backing of non corrosive composite material similar to vulcanite celluloid etc. having struck up outwardly-extending ears 1 and seating prongs 2, the former being perforated at their extremities to form eyelets for spring clip hinges 3, the latter forming'seating shoulders for a tooth brush, as B, and also resilient seats for glass tooth brush covers, as C.
The tooth brush holder may be attached to a wall, frame or casement, by means of screws, nails or the like, placed through apertures, as 4:, through the flattened portion of the frame A.
In the drawings I have shown a series of three tooth brush holders in one frame. It would be obvious, however, that either one or more could be employed, the drawing as made being in triplicate to more clearly show the method of its construction and operation.
The tooth brush holders C are of transparent material; glass, for instance-open at one end and having a rounded opposite or top end, and through the upper wall of which a ventilating hole may be formed. These holders are secured between the outwardly extending ears 1 by means of semi circular shaped bands 5 and the spring clips 3 aforesaid, and when in operative position rest with their open ends on the supporting brush prongs 2, the prongs being curved downwardly at their extremities to readily permit said covers to swing thereover yet slightly impinge them when tilted from a vertical position.
The bands 5 are preferably made of a 1naterial similar to the frame back A, and at their ends are perforated to receive the outwardly-curved ends of the spring hinge clips 3, with which an encircling resilient band is formed for supporting a brush cover.
A spring hinge clip 3 as shown is a semi circular piece of wire bent outwardly or sidewise centrally between its slightly resupporting ears 1.
versed curved ends 6 and forms an offset bow 7, the object of the offset being to permit said clip to slightly give or take in its attachment with a band 5' in encircling a 'brushcover C, as hereinafter set forth.
In 0 eration, a band 5 is placed on a cover ator near its point of suspension between a air of ears 1 and a clip 3 placed diametricaly opposite, the1 ends of the latter projecting through the apertures in the ends of the former, the ends of said clip thrust through apertures in theends of said ears;
, A clip as 3, by the provision of the offset curve 7 affords sufficient resiliency to permit the interlocking of the band 5 without difficulty and the subsequent of the extremities of said clip through the 7 From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, a more extended explanation of the construction and operation of my improved tooth brush holder is believed to be unneces- Sag. r a
avmg, therefore, set iorth, the ob ects assembling and advantages of myinvention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is v In a device'of theclass set forth, the
combination with a framework having spaced outwardly-extending earswith apertures through their outer extremities, a
cylindrical tooth brush cover adapted to forming a suspending bond swiveled to and between said ears, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
