The purpose of the invention is to pro vide the mouth-piece of a telephone transmitter with a sanitary surface formed of such material as to sterilize any germ that may be deposited on the mouth-piece.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing wherein a telephone transmitter is shown in elevation, the mouth-piece being in section.

I form a detachable cover 3 for the interior surface of the mouth-piece. made up of a disinfecting material, I have found that naphthalene is desirable for this purpose as this has the sterilizing quality and is susceptible of being molded to the proper shape. I prefer to provide a backing i for this covering 3 of metal and as the covering 3 is formed the metal forms one part of the mold and the sterilizing material adheres to it. v
The cover is so shaped as to make a close fit with the inner surface of the mouth-piece and is detachably secured therein by an annular clip 5 having a spring lip 6 which snaps over the outer periphery of the mouth-piece andholds the sterilizing cover 3 in place with a spring-pressed pressure so that there is no interference with the efiiciency of the mouth-piece in the transmission of messages through the transmitter.
What I claim as new is I 1. A sanitary cover for transmitter. mouth pieces comprising a covering formed of sterilizing material and conforming in general contour to the interior surface of the mouthpiece, said covering being separately formed and detachable from the mouth-piece; and an annular ring arranged on the periphery of the mouth-piece forsecuring the cover in place, said ring engaging only the outer edge of the cover whereby the greater portion of the sanitary covering may be exposed.
