Description

W. A. SCOTT. PHONOGRAPH sounn BOARD.
APPLICATION FILED IMY 7. 1920.

IN VEN TOR WITNESSES ATTORNEYS WILLIAM ARTHUR SCOTT, OF PORTLAND, OREGON.
PHONOGRAJPH SOUND-BOARD Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 1, 1921.
Application filed May 7, 1920. Serial No; 379,601,
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, TILLIAM A. SCOTT, a citizen of the United. States, and resident of Portland, in the county of Multnomah and State of Oregon, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Phonograph Sound-Boards, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is an improvement in phonograph sound boards. and has tor its object "o provide a device of the character speci. .l, wherein the y ionic of tone is increased while the quality oi the sounds being rcprmhu'ml retained. the sound board being voinh' iorniing a In the oe-tire view of the imamplifier with parts broken aw Fig. is a diagrammatic view of? a pnouoar oh showing the position of the mplilier. '1 he present embodiment of th in is shown in connection with a phon having the usual casing l, and the sound board forms the lower wall of the amplifier which is shown more particularly in Fig. 1. This amplifier is a funnel-shaped structure 2 having at its small end a tubular structure 3 which connects the said small end with the tone arm at of the phonograph, and the sound vibrations pass from the tone arm to the tubular structure and to the amplifier body to be discharged into the air.
The amplifier has three of its walls, namely the top and side walls, composed of wood or any other suitable material, and the fourth wall is composed of a sheet 5 of plate glass, thesaid sheet being triangular as shown to correspond with the shape of the said wall.
A false bottom or wall 6 is arranged below the sheet 5, the said false wall or hotextension p0 ition which are arranged near the side 1e sheet and bottom, and the false l to the side walls of the screws or the like it; will be seen tl the sheet a Taped to close the lower side of the amp 4 asses into the l which p s the bott m 11011 tubular extension thereof. The improvement increases the volume of tone, while retaining the quality of the instrument and in reproducing the voice, when it is the Voice, it also adds to the clearness and distinctness of the words being spoken.
I claim:
An amplifier comprising a body of pyramidal form arranged in substantially horizontal position, an upright tubular member formed at the smaller end of the body, a false bottom disposed below the bottom oi the body, strips disposed near the side edges of the body between the bottom'thereof and the false bottom whereby to space away the latter and form a relatively long and wide but thin air space, and securing members passing through the false bottom outwardly of the edges of the bottom of the body into the lower edges of the sides of the body.
YVILLIAM ARTHUR SCOTT.
