To all whom it may concem:

Be it known that I, IsIDoR J. KUsnL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Small Banks, of which the following is a full, clear, concise, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification.

My invention relates to small banks for coins and other valuables.

The principal object ofthe invention is to provide a simple, practical and inexpensive construction of bank of the kind specified.

Another object of the invention is to simplify the construction and adapt it especially for manufacture by machinery, thereby increasing the speed of production and decreasing the cost thereof.

Referring to the drawings I show a bank consisting ofa lower or body portion 1 and an upper portion or cover 2. The body portion 1 is preferably made of metal and in the form shown it has a cylindrical wall 1 and a fiat bottom 1 The cover 2 is preferably made with a metal cap 2 with the annular flange 2 which fits within the upper portion of the cylindrical wall 1 of the body 1. Said top is also preferably provided with a covering consisting of a metal shell 4 and a layer 5 of celluloid fitted closely thereon and held in position by having its edge folded back and crimped underneath as shown at 5. The celluloid or similar material may be used for advertising matter or otherwise. In this construction it-may be readily applied to the cap member 2 and will be held properly in position.

actuated by a keyinserted through'a keyhole 15 in the base 1. Inasmuch as this locking mechanism is made the subject matter of an application filed by me December 6, 1916, Serial No. 135,374, it will not be described in further detail herein.

by which the coins inserted through the coin slot 6 may be automatically prevented from falling or being shaken out of such slot. This involves a platform 16 arranged so that it will lie substantially in alinement with the lower edge of the slot 6 so that it may receive the coins insertedthrough the latter and also arranged to tilt or swing so that said coins may slide off from it into the interior of the bank. To such end the platform 16 is provided with upwardly ex tending side members 17 which are pivoted at 18 to the downwardly extending side members 19 on a clip 20 which is secured to the top or cover 2. The platform 16 is prov vided with an upwardly inclined end porcoin slot 6 so that normally said portion 21 closes said slot but a coin when inserted may strike against the inclined surface of said tion21 located substantially in front of the I '1 platform due to the weight of the coin will drop the latter into the bank. The clip 20 is preferably secured to the metal wall of the top or cover 2 bymeans of a fastener 22 conveniently made by punching a portion of the top wall of the cap 2 downwardly so that an edge portion 23 of said clip may be pushed in between said portion 22 and the wall surface. The clip 20 is further heldv by means of a second fastening device 24 also conveniently made by punching downwardl a portion of the metal top of the cap 2 an the clip 20 isprovided with an aperture 25 through which said fastening device or prong 24 may be passed. The clip 20 is preferably provided with a formed up ridge 26 with which the fastener or prong 22 may be engaged to secure a firmer grip. The pivotal connection between the platform 16 and side walls 19 of the clip 20 is preferably 2 made by eyelets 27-27 passing through said members 19 and 17.

As a further preventive of the escape of coins, a wall 28 is preferably arranged in position in front of the inclined member 21,

It will be understood that changes and modifications may be made without depart-' ing from the spirit of the invention.

l/Vhat I claim is: a

1. A small bank having a. coin slot and a pivotally supported tilting platform having a bent end located adjacent to the coin slot so as to open and close the same by the tiltsaid bank also having a coin slot located below said top wall, a clip secured to said topwall by means of prongs formed by punched out portions of the innermost layer of said top, said clip having itstop provided with apertures through which said prongs are extended, and a tilting platform having upwardly extending sides pivotally connected with downwardly extending sides on said clip, saidplatform having one of its. ends ad aCent to said coin aperture and pro-.

vided with a bent end for the purpose of permitting the insertion of coins, but preventlng the escape of the same, and said clip being provided with a downward extension in the rear of said bent end to cooperate in such control of coins.
