Application filed August 20, 1920. Serial No. 404,949.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ALBERT HENRY, a
citizen of the United States, residing at Nebraska City, in the county of Otoe and State of Nebraska, have invented a new and useful Register, of which the following is V a specification. r
The device forming the subject matter of this application is an improvement in wooden registers of the type used in connection with cold air flues and for other purposes, the object of the invention being so to improve theregister that the same may be removed readily for cleaning. The inven'- tion aims, further,'to strengthen the register so that it will support an increased weight. I 7
It is within the province of the disclosure to improve generally and to enhance the utility of devices of that type to which the invention appertains.
With the aboveand other objects in View,
which will appear as the descriptionproceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of partsandlin the details of construction hereinafter'described and claimed, it being understood that,-with in the scope of what is claimed,'changes in the precise embodiment of the invention 3 shown can be made'without departing from the spirit of the invention. In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 shows in top plan, a portion of a register constructed in accordance with the invention; Fig} 2 isa section taken ap-.
proximately on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1"; Fig.
3 is a section showing a modification; Fig.
is a section showing a further modification; and Fig. 5 is a section wherein another modification appears. Y
The numeral 1 denotes a marginal frame 1 ordinarily made of wood, sills 2 extending across the frame, and bars. 3 extending across the frame at right angles to the sills 2, the sills and the bars being made of wood, and the sills 2 being recessed as shown at 1, to receive the bars 1 In carrying out the present invention there is provided an edge binder, made of metal, and including. a body I 5 bearing against the outer surface of the frame 1. i
.outwardly extended flange at any time, for cleaning.
The bodyi5 is outwardlyextended and re' versely bent as indicatedat' 6, to form an outwardly projecting double walled flange 7, the upper wall of the flange 7 being inwardly extended as indicated at are overlapthe upper edge of the frame 1; At its lower edge, the body 5 may be extended to form a lip 10 engaging the lower edge of the frame 1. The corner joints at the top of the edge binder, indicated at 9 in Fig. 1, maybe closed by electric welding, by brazing 'orotherwise. Securing elements l1 pass through the part 8 and enter the frame 1. Securing elements 12 passthrough the-body seamencastaway reheated Ea. 2 2', 121. I
5 and: throughthe frame 1 and enter the sills 2. The register struction is such that the register is reinforced to support an increased weight. vThe register, further may be removed readily In Fig. 3 of the drawings, parts hereinbefore described have been designated byv numerals previouslyused, with the sufiix a.=' In Fig. 3, the edge binder is of double walled construction throughout. A'
securing element 14 may be used to attach the 11p 10 to the frame 1.
f In Fig. 4: of the drawings, parts hereinbefore described have been designated by numerals previously used, with the sufiix b. In thisform of the invention, a metal strip 15 is inserted between the constituent- 1 In Fig. 5 of the drawings, parts'herein- 3 1 before alluded to are designated by nu- .merals previously used, with the suffix .c-.
parts of the'body 5".
The edge binder shown in Fig. 5 is of'the form 'shown in Fig. 3, saving for the'fact that the lip 10" of Fig. 3 is omitted.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is j -1. A register comprising a marginal frame; and a binder including a body extended along the outer surface of the frame, the body being carried laterally and re versely bent to form an outwardly extended double walled flange prolonged across the.
upper edge of the frame. 2. A device of theclass described, conmay be supported" on the I and the constructed as set forth in claim .1 and further characterized by the fact that the lower edge of the body is prolonged to form a lip extended across the lower edge of the frame.
3. .A device of the class described, constructed as set forth in claim 1 and further characterized by the fact that all portions of the binder are of donble walled construction. a
i. A device of the classdescribed, constructed as set forth in claim 1 and further characterized by the fact that all portions of the binder are of double walled construction, a strip being mountetl between the constituent members of the body.
In testimony that I olaim the. foregoing as my own, I have hereto aflixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
ALBERT HENRY.
