To all whom-it may concern: Be it known that I, Louis CUvELIER, residin at Halifax, in the county of Halifax and rovince of Nova Scotia and Dominion of Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shoe-Heels; and I do declare the followin to be a full, clear, and exact description 0 the'invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to improvements in shoe heels, and it has more particular reference to rubber heels for attachment to the 'usual leather heel.

The main object of the invention is to improve u on the construction of my prior atent 0. 1,108,975 granted to me on Sep tember 1, 1914.

In the above named patent'is shown an apertured rubber lift and an a ertured metallic attaching plate therefor, t e two being permanently secured together by means of substantially L-shaped tongues which project laterally from the plate and are embedded in the rubber lift, the plate also including spurs to enter the usual leather heel to prevent rotation and shifting of the rubber heel, there also being a retaining screw to pass through said apertures into the leather heel to secure the rubber heel in place.

Upon manufacturing several heels constructed in accordance with the structure disclosed in my patent, I find that the type of ahchoring tongues do not properly retain the plate and lift together, therefore, I find it necessary to change this particular part of the heel in order to obtain a heel of this type in which there is little or no possibility of the heel and plate separating o overcome the above objection, I have devised and here disclose, an attaching plate provided with novel anchoring tongues which not only differentiate the present device from my patent, but also differentiate it from similar patented devices, a number of which I am entirely familiar with.

In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification and in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same:

Figure 1 is a top plan view of a heel and an attaching plate constructed in accordance with the present invention.

Fig. 2 is a transverse vertical section taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1, showing the heel attached to a leather heel.

Fig. 3 is a detail top plan view of the new attaching plate.

In the drawings, wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown a preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 1 desig nates a leather heel of a shoe 2, and the numeral 3 designates, as a whole, my improved rubber heel and attaching plate. In view of the fact that the construction of the present device is only slightly different from that disclosed and claimed in the aforesaid patent, I do not deem it necessary to prepare a lengthy detail description of the old parts of the device. Briefly described my heel includes a rubber, centrally apertured lift 4, recessed in its upper surface to provide a seat for the reception of the attaching plate 5. The latter, like the one disclosed in my patent, is centrally apertured and is provided with a depressed portion 6 to compel the periphery of the rubber heel to bind against the heel-proper, when my device is attached. In addition to this, the plate is provided with a plurality of upstruck V- shaped spurs 7 which are spaced inwardly from the margin of the plate and are" adapted to engage the heel 1 to prevent rotation or displacement of the rubber heel as is obvious.

So far as described, these parts are identical with my patented device. As before stated in my patent, the design of the anchoring tongues is such that the attaching plate and lift will not remain permanently connected, as is desired. The construction overcoming this disadvantage is clearly shown in Fig. 3. Examination of this figure will disclose the fact that the plate is provided entirely around its margin with a plurality of dove-tail notches 8, the material between these notches forming dove-tail anchoring tongues 9, which when in use are bent downwardly at right angles close to the body of the plate as shown in Fig. 2. When so bent, the points 10 of the adjacent tongues will almost contact each other, thus a perfect anchor will be had. and there will be little or no possibility of the attaching plate and lift separating, which is a (llSQLl vantage attached to my patented device and similar devices with which I am familiar. While the constructional differences between the patented device and the present device are only slight, I find that there is enough difference to turn a failure into a success. In view of the foregoing remark, I desire to emphasize the construction of the anchoring tongues of the present attaching plate because it accomplishes the result desired, in a very effective manner. In addition to this, it is strong, durable, and extremely inexpensive to both the manufacturer and the user.

A. careful consideration of the foregoing description taken in connectionwith the accompanying drawings will enable persons skilled in the art to which this invention relates toinot only distinguish the difference between my patented device and the present device, but will also enable them to obtain a thorough understanding of the objects and advantages claimed for the latter. In view of this, a more lengthy description is deemed unnecessary.

I claim:

A shoe heel comprising an apertured rubber lift and .an apertured attaching plate, therefor, the apertures being in alinement with each other, said plate resting on the attaching face of the lift and having its entire margin provided with a plurality of spaced dovetail notches, forming between them a plurality of spaced dove-tail tongues bent down at right angles to the body portion and embedded in the lift to permanently.
