Description

M. SCHIANO. COMBINATION OPENlNG DEVICE FOR BOTTLES.
APPLICATION FILED MAR. 12. I920.
Patented Feb. 1, 1921.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MICHAEL SQHIANO, OF AUBURN, VICTORIA, AUSTRALIA.
COMBINATION OPENING DEVICE FOR BOTTLES.
Application filed March 12, 1920.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MICHAEL SoHIANo, a subject of the King of Italy, residing at No. 13 Victoria road, Auburn, in the State of Victoria, Commonwealth of Australia, have invented new and useful Improvements in Combination Opening Devices for Bottles, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a combination opening device for bottles and provided with means for removing metal capsules, unscrewing wooden stoppers and for forcing in glass balls or marbles.
In the accompanying drawing Figure 1 is a sectional side elevation, and
Fig. 2 a front elevation of the opening de vice, and
Fig. 3 is a side sectional elevation of a modified form of opening device, and
4t a front elevation of Fig. 3.
The device as illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2 consists Or an L shaped metal bracket or angle iron, the short arm E oi which is holed to be screwed near the edge of a counter or table, and when so positioned the arm E projects backward from the stem or long arm A as shown. The device is bent at its upper end and formed into a hook B, the edge of which is tapered or sharpened to engage the corrugated edge of a metal capsule. In order to remove the capsule the latter is placed under the hook l8 and when the bottle is jerked or pulled down the capsule is forced or levered oil A vertical slot or hole C is punched or cast in the stem or arm A, and is of suit? cient length and width to receive the head of a wooden stopper or plug of the type which has a threaded stem and rubber washer and screws tightly into the internally threaded neck oi bottle. To remove the stopper or plug the head of the latter 'is inserted in the slot C, and it is only necessary to twist or turn the bottle to unscrew same.
D is a conical pin projecting from the arm A of bracket and which is suitably riveted to same, said pin having a shank to receive a rubber washer or pad cl which relieves the jar of the impact and prevents the neck of the bottle from being broken when it is forced against the pin. v
The slightly modified form of opening device shown in Figs. 3 and t is specially adapted to be placed under the ledge of a Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 1, 1921. Serial No. 365,288.
counter, the stem or arm F of which modified opener is also formed into a hook G or capsule remover. The stem is bent to form a U shaped recess H, the inner end oi which being slanted and holed to enable the device to be screwed to the side of the under frame of counter or table, and adapted to receive and grip the head of a wooden stopper which when turned is unscrewed from the bottle as before described.
The glass ball or marble is forced in by means of a prong I which is punched or stamped out leaving two legs over which a rubber tube J is secured to present a soft and yielding surface to the neck oi? the bottle' .lt is obvious that either form of opening device may be slightly modified or altered without departing from the spirit or scope of this invention. Thus the vertical slot may be horizontal. and below the conical pin or other slight alterations as desired.
I-laving now described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A device of the character sun as described comprising, a bracke cap engaging hook formed by an end of said bracket, a seat bent :lt'rom the other end of said bracket and extending from the hook side thereof, and a base formed from the intermediate portion of said bracket and extending in a direction opposite to and away from the hook side thereof, said base forming a seat in and on the intermediate portionof said bracket and so arranged with respect to said hook to permit normal, uninterrupted operation thereof.
2. In a bottle opening device of the character substantially as described, the combi nation of a bottle closure engaging means with, seats termed in and on the body portion of the device and adapted to receive and have secured thereto attachment devices, said seats so positioned and arranged with respect to said closure engaging means as to permit or the normal, uninterrupted operation thereof.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
MICHAEL SCHIANO.
