Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM J. MOINTOSH, OF GALVESTON, TEXAS.
COMPOSITION FOR WATERPROOFING FABRICS, LEATHER, AND THE LIKE.
No Drawing.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM J. MoIN- TOSH, a citizen of the United States of America, and resident of Galveston, in the county of Galveston and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Composition for IVaterproofing Fabrics, Leather, and the like, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a composition of matter and particularly to a solution of utility in water proofing fabrics, leather or the like.
An object of this invention is to produce inexpensively a liquid which can be spread on automobile tops or other objects for the purpose of rendering the fabric water proof, the said composition being black naturally and therefore requiring no coloring matter to render it useful for producing a finished appearance after it is applied.
A further object of this invention is to produce a composition which will readily dry after it has been applied.
lVith the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists in the ingredients, proportions and manner of compound- Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 4, 1921.
Application filed October 29, 1919. Serial No. 334,334.
ing, to be hereinafter more fully set forth and claimed.
I In carrying out my invention, I employ 7-}- parts sea Wax (maltha) dissolved in 18 parts turpentine, heated to a temperature of about 200 F. and thereafter six parts of gasolene are added to produce a liquid coating which can be applied to all kinds of fabrics, cloth and leather, and it is also of utility in water proofing Wood.
The principal use to which the liquid has been put up to this time is a dressing for automobile tops and it acts as a preservative and renders, cloth, rubber, leather and the like Water proof when the same is coated with the liquid.
The turpentine is useful in dissolving the sea wax as the gasolene facilitates the evaporation and renders the liquid quick drying.
I claim:
1. The herein described composition of matter consisting of sea Wax, turpentine and gasolene.
2. The herein described composition of matter consisting of 7% parts sea wax, 18 parts turpentine and 6 arts asolene.
WILLIA J. ifeINTosH.
