- citizen of the United States, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Concrete-Forms for Reinforced Hollow Walls, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to apparatus for constructing hollow reinforced walls of cement, and has for its object to provide a device that is simple in construction and in method of readjusting for continuous use in the erection of a building; and in which the parts are substantial and durable and capable of long use, provide an apparatus of the kind that provides for the continuous erection of a cementitious wall with the requirement of apparatus of least weight and with the leastrequirement of false work practicable in the construction of concrete walls. The invention consists of the construction, the combination and in details and arrangements of the parts, an embodiment of which invention is illustrated in the accompanying .drawings anddescribed and claimed herein.

The apparatus comprises readily shiftable mold forming members and supports therefor and means for tamping the cementitious material as it is continuously poured into the chambers formed by the mold members,
and while the apparatus is shown in the present case as used in the construction of hollow walls it may equally as well be adapted for the constructlon of a mold wall or partition.
In use a series of substantially vertical columns or jack posts 22 are arranged in suitable alinement these being pitched in appropriate distance according to the work and further an object is to in hand, and as illustrated the posts are set ,in a common plane in the erection of a wall structure having outer and inner walls 0 and I between which is formed a space S to secure finally a hollow wall that may be reinforced as by transverse braces or ties T.
On each "of the jack posts 2 is slidably mounted a traveler or scaffold frame 3 iiicludlng a central sleeve 4 provided adjacent its lower end with a lug 5 on which is pivoted a link 6 extending upwardly and conneetedyto the outer end of a lever 7 having. at its inner end a clamp ring or biting member 8 slidably fitting on its respective post 2 with the, result that when the weight of the traveling sleeve or carrier 4 is transmitted through the link 6 to the lever 7 the tendency of the ring 8 to tilt about the axis of the column 2 causes the ring to instantly and securely bite on to the surface of the column or post 2 and this will efficiently support the slide or carrier 4 at any desired position on the post.
Mounted on the upper end of the tubular runner 4 is a hub portion 3 of the frame 3, this hub having outwardly extending arms 10 on the outer'ends of which are provided downwardly extending leg portions 11, these being of suitable strength and" length and having secured to their inner lower faces panels or sheets of material forming mold boards or sections 12, these boards being of any suitable length and preferably connected to sets or pairs of respective scaffold arms or legs 11 as shown in Fig. 1.
Inwardly opposite to the pendent legs 11 are intermediate downwardly extending legs 13 disposed adjacent to the sides of the tubular runner 4 and the outer faces of the legs 13 are provided with respective mold forming panels or boards 14:, these being spaced from the opposite and respective outer mold boards or panels 12 as determined by the the frame 3. and are connected to-a cross I head 18 having a bearing or collar 19 freely sliding on a respective jack post 2.
Connected to the tamper cross head of each frame 3 is a link 20 the lower end of which is pivotally connected at 21 to a lever arm 22 fulcrumed at 23 on the top of the frame 3. The lever arm 22 has an actuating arm'24. extending beyond the fulcrum 23 and this arm may be actuated manually .or
mechanically so as to rock the lever arm 22 in the direction of the arrow thereon so as to thrust the tamper rods 16 and the tampers 17 downwardly to tamp the. cement in the mold chambers. l
The pivot 23 may be extended in the form of a rock shaft. as shown in Fig. 1, and 1t may be mechanlcally driven through power applied to a pulley wheel 25 or any other suitable device.
..As shown in Fig. 3 the adjacent vertical Th edges of thev inner mold members 14 of one set are spaced from each other as at 14 to pro vide an opening. This opening is normally covered by a slidable gate 26 mounted on the inner faces ofthe coordinate mold members 14-14, and access to these gates is had at the upper edges of the members 14 so that an attendant can by lifting the gates 26; that are opposite to each-other with respect to a given scafi'old frame 3, insert transverse tie or reinforcin means as the 'erection'of the walls O. and% proceed. Since the clamp device or rin 8 is arranged just above the upper end 0 the frame 3 the upward movement of this frame causes it to engage-the clamp tive post 2 and the ring will slide freely upwardly on the post a distance that will be determined by the angular movement of the lever 22-24= which is now utilized as a lifting means for the apparatus. Immediately the weight of the frame and apparatus 1s agaln thrown on to the lever 7, and the clamp ring 8 by release of the pressure on the link 20 by the lever 22 the clamp 8 then becomes automatically eifective and locking itself holds the runner or slide 4 suspended by the link 6. 4. Concrete mold apparatus for erecting concrete walls, comprising; a standard; a
frame slidably mounted on the standard and carrying-mold forming sections; and automatic locking means for securing the frame to the standard and said means being readily movable with the frame'in one direction; and tamping means mounted on the frame to be moved upwardly therewith; said tamping means including a cross head slidably mounted on the standard and having a tamping rod with a tamper foot at its lower end and operating connections between the cross head and means by which the cross head can be reciprocated to raise and lower the tampers; and by which whenthe tamper-s are supported on the filling the slidable frame can be elevated.
5. Apparatus for concurrently building parallel, vertical artitions to form a hollow wall, comprising a set of uprights;
runners slidably mounted on the uprights and'having friction clamp means for locking the runner to the upright and adapted to permit free movement of 'the runners in.
one direction; sets of mold chambers forming means mounted on the runner of each standard; the said chamber forming means cooperating to provide a continuous filling chamber; and means for successively tamping filling charged into the mold chambers.
6. Apparatus for concurrently building parallel, vertical partitions to form a hollow wall, comprising a set of uprights; runners slidably mounted on the upright and having friction clamp means for locking the runner to the upright and adapted to permit free movement of the runners in one direction; sets of mold chamber-forming means mounted on the runner of each standard; the said chamber forming means cooperating to provide a continuous filling chamber; and means for successively tamping filling charged into the mold chambers; said means also operative to elevate the 'apparatus in successive stages as the filling of the chambers proceeds.
