Be it known that I, YURAJ Dnnm, a citizen of Czecho-Slovakia, residing at Boswell,'in the county of Somerset and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Rail-Joints, of which the following is a specification.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a rail joint that possesses substantially equal strength to the remainder of the rail when positioned for use upon the roadbed, the joint being readily assembled and disassembled.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a rail joint capable of maintaining its position when the connected rails are secured to the ties without the aid of bolts during the laying of the rails or in a temporary track construction, additional strength however being imparted to the joint by the addition of ordinary bolts,
With these general objects in view and others that will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood the same consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and then claimed.

Referring more in detail to the drawings, I have illustrated two rails 10 and 11 with their adjacent ends connected together by my form of joint with the rails in longitudinal alinement as employed in track formation and the adjacent end faces 12 of Specification of Letters Patent.

Connecting plates 13 are employed countersunk within cutaway portions or recesses 14 upon the opposite sides of the webs 15 of said rails 10 and 11, receiving grooves 16 being formed in the opposite base flanges 17 of the rails for the sliding reception of the lower edges 18 of said plates 13.
The upper edge 19 of each plate 13 is obtuse angular in shape with the point 20 of the angle centrally of the upper edge of said plate. Receivlng slots 16' are provided in the under face of the treads 21 of the rails 10 and 11 within the cutaway portions 14 of the webs 15 thereof opposite and above the receiving grooves 16.
During the assembling of my rail joint, two of the plates 13 are positioned within the grooves 16 and slots 16 of one of the rails such as 11 within the recesses 14: thereof. When the plates 13 are seated within said recesses 14 of one rail, substantially one half of each plate projects outwardly of the end face 12 of the carrying rail permitting said projecting ends of the plates 13 to be slidably inserted in a similar manner within the recesses 14 of the adjacent rail such as 10, the plates 13 at the same time being positioned with the apexes 20 thereof substantially at the adjacent faces 12 of the connected rails as illustrated in Figs: 1 and 2 of the drawings.
A double fish plate or rail chair 22 having a tubular base 23 and opposite fish plates 24 is slidably positioned over the joint formed as above noted and substantially centrally of the connecting plates 13 by sliding the chair 22 longitudinally along one of the rails such as 10 from the free end thereof to the said joint.
The chair 22 having been slidably moved to the position shown in Figs. 1 and 2, securing bolts 25 are Positioned through alining perforations 26 in the fish plate portions 24 of the chair and through corresponding perforations 27 in the plates 13 and perforations 28 in the recesses 14 of the rails 10 and 11. Relatively shorter bolts 25 are secured through end perforations 27' in the plates 13 and terminal perforations 28' in the recessed portions 1 1 of the rail webs 15. In this manner, the plates 13 as well as the chair 22 are secured to the rails 10 and 11 thereby rigidly connecting said rails tocred through said. ehnhg connecting he webs of the rolls.
