To all whom it may concern.'

Be it known that l, JOHN GULDE, a citizen of the United States, residing` at Arlington, in the county of Reno and State of lansas, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Identification Devices, being a division of my pendingapplication, Serial No. 376,606, iiled pril 26, 1920, of which the following is a specication, reference being` had to the accompanying drawings.

rhis invention relates to certain improvements in exhibiting devices, and it is an object of the invention to provide a device of this general character embodying a novel and improved lframe adapted to be mounted upon a windshield or other part of a vehicle in a manner such as by a seal whereby it can be readily determined that the device has been removed from applied position without authority.

It is also an object of the invention to provide a novel and improved device of this general character adapted to be employed in connection with identifying data such as is disclosed in my pending application, Serial No. 376,606, filed April 26, 1920, and of which the present application is a division.

Another object of the invention is to provide a novel and improved device of this general character embodying a frame or container provided with a transparent face or wall whereby visual access may be had therein, together with means coacting with the device to prevent moisture and other foreign matter from having ingress therein and which would otherwise be liable to mar or obscure the matter arranged within the frame for exposure through the transparent face or wall.

The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and ar rangement of the several parts of my improved exhibiting device whereby certain important advantages are attained and the device rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advantageous for use, as willl be hereinafter more fully set forth.

The novel features of my invention will hereinafter be definitely claimed.

As disclosed in the accompanying drawings, F denotes a frame in its entirety constructed in accordance with an embodiment of my invention and having its members l formed of wood, metal or other desired material and each of said members is provided alongV its inner face and at its inner marginal portion with a rabbet 2. Secured preferably by an adhesive to the rear faces of the members l outwardly of the rabbets 2 thereof are the marginal portions of the back plate 3. The back plate 3 may be of cardboard, cork or any other pliable and iibrous material to avoid rattling' and friction.

Overlying the front face of the back plate 3 is a wall or plate l of transparent material, preferably glass, and which, when applied, has its marginal portions snugly itting within the rabbets 2. The plate 4 provides means whereby visual access may be had within the frame or within the resilient container produced by the back plate 3 and the front wall or glass plate 4 coactinfz with said frame. By havinar the marginal portions of the Aglass plate 4 extend within the rabbets 2, said plate l' is eifectually held against removal without demolishina the structure as by separating the members l of the frame or by removing the back plate 3.

5 denotes a sheet of paper or the like adapted to be adhesively secured to the forward or inner face of the back plate 3 for exposure through the front or glass plate 4 and said sheet 5 is adapted to have printed or otherwise produced on the exposed face thereof suitable matter to be exhibited and preferably certain identifying data, as is disclosed in my pending application, Serial No. i'-SGy hereinbefore referred to.

After the device has been assembled, a lamination 23 of water-proof material is dis'- posed over and preferably adhesively secured to the rear face of the back plate 3 and the marginal portions of this lamination are extended over the side members l of the frame F and adhesively secured to the portions of the glass plate 4 immediately adjacent the members l. By this means, moisture and other foreign matter is positively prevented from having ingress within the device which would otherwise be liable to mar or obscure the matter to be exhibited.

My improved device is particularly adapted to be suitably supported upon the windshield or other part of a vehicle and after the device has been properly mounted upon the car or other support, a seal 24, preferably of paper, is secured by adhesion or otherwise both to the device and the adjacent portion of the vehicle or other support, so that in the event the frame should be removed, it will necessitate the tearing or fracture of the seal 24. By this means, it can be readily determined should the device be removed from appliedv position by an unauthorized person.

From the foregoing description it is thought to be obvious that an exhibiting device constructed in accordance with my invention is particularly well adapted for use by reason of the convenience vand facility with which it may be assembled and koperated, and it will also be obvious that my invention is susceptible of some change and modification without departingfrom the principles and spirit thereof and for this reason do not Wish to be understood as limiting myself to the precise arrangement and formation of the several parts herein shown in carrying out my invention in practice except as hereinafter claimed.

I claim: v

The combination with an automobile including a wind shield frame, of a container comprising side and end members, an opaque wall and a transparent wall carried by the side and end members, lamination of waterproof material extending over the opaque wall, and the side and end members, the marginal edges of said material being engaged with the marginal edge portions of the transparent wall, means for securing the container to a portion of the wind shield, and a breakable seal surrounding a portion of the wind shield frame-and secured to the container between said securing means.
