Description

M. W. POWELL.
I MOVIE STAR DOLL. APPLICATION FILED SEPT. 16, 1919.
1,362,264, 7 Patentd Dec. 14, 1920 moewtoz I attain UNITED STATES MARY 'W. POWELL, OF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA.
MOVIE STAR-DOLL.
Application filed September 16, 1919.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MARY W. POWELL, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city and county of San Francisco, State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Movie Star-Dolls, of which the following is a specification.
My invention consists of a doll, model, or lay figure having mounted at the back thereof a rotating or oscillating star, or similar figure, thus providing an attractive toy or display device. This I accomplish by mounting on the back of the head of the figure a pin, or spindle, on which I mount a rotatable star, or similar device, a portion of the latter extending above the head of the figure, when seen from the front so that the head is silhouetted against the said star. The points, or prongs, of this star I prefer to bend slightly so that upon blowing from the front the component of pressure thus occasioned against the points of the star or similar device will cause it to rotate.
By referring to the figures my invention will be made clear.
Figure 1. Is a front view of my doll.
Fig. 2. Is a side view of the head showing in detail the mechanism of the star and its support.
Throughout the figures the same letters refer to identical parts.
The head of the doll is indicated by the letter a, on the back of which is afiixed the pin 6, the hub is indicated by the letter 0 and is freely rotatable on the said pin, and d is the rotatable star, or other device, having the point 6. These points or prongs I prefer to twist slightly about their radial centers, as in the case of windmill blades,
Specification of Letters Patent.
Serial No. 324,199.
. or propellers, so as to offer an angular sun face to wind line of its axis.
I prefer to set the hub 0 between the head of the doll and the star device so that the latter will clear the hair when it rotates.
Although I have here shown a six pointed star with its axis mounted in a horizontal line when the doll is standing. I do not wish to be confined to such construction, as it is obvious that the axis of the star may be set at another angle so as to more nearly resemble a halo or the star, or other device, may be mounted at other points on the body, as for' example at the waist line, in which case it could be made of larger size. Also any number of points, or prongs, may be provided, as for example, to give theeffect of a fan instead of a star; also the moving element may be unsymmetrical either as regards device or weight, so that the wind pressure will produce an oscillation instead of a rotation, thus giving the effect of a waving fan.
I claim:
A doll head having a rotatable star mounted in a vertical plane and on a pivot, a pivot fixed to the back of said head, the blades of the star adapted to receive an air current as they rotate clear of the head and be deprived thereof as they rotate behind the head.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand at the city and county of San Francisco, California, this 10th day of September, 1919.
MARY l/V. POWELL.
