Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. '7, 1920.
Application led February 9, 1920. Serial No. 357,257.
To aN @07mm t may concern.'
Be it known that I, UBALD HEBERT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bennington, in the county of Bennington and State of Vermont, have invented lnevv and useful Improvements in Door-Openers, of which the following is a specification.
'E his invention relates to means for opening and closing doors and the principal object of the invention is to provide a lazytongs device for opening and closing sliding doors.
lThis invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appendln describing my invention in detail, reference Will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in-Whichz- Figure l is a fragmentary front vie7 showing my invention in use.
2 is a horizontal section taken through Fig. l.
Fig. 3 is a view showing the shaft and its associated plates unassembled.
n these views l indicates a part of the door frame and 2 indicates a part of the door which is slidably mounted in the frame. rl`his door is formed of an inner and outer portion which are spaced apart to receive the operating means. A shaft 3 passes through the door and is held to the door by the plates l which are located on the inner and outer portions of the door. A plate 5 is secured to the shaft adjacent the inner portion of the door and substantially L- shaped links 6 have their ends pivoted to the end of said plate. The outer ends of these links are pivotally connected With the ends of the toggle levers 7. The other end of the toggle levers are pivotally connected to a block 8 connected With the frame. The pair of levers to Which the links 6 are connected are of greater length than the other levers and their outer parts are slightly curved as shown. The outer end of the shaft is of substantially square shape in cross section so as to receive a square opening formed in the operating lever 9.
It Will thus be seen that When said lever is swung in one direction the toggle levers Will be contracted to open the door and When swung in the other direction the levers will be forced together and projected to close the door.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention Will be readily apparent.
l desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.
VFhat I claim is l. In combination with a sliding door and its frame, of a rotatable shaft carried by the door, a plate carried by said shaft, links pivoted to the ends of said plate, toggle levers connected With said links and to a stationary part on the frame and means for rotating said shaft.
2. In combination With a sliding door and its frame, of a rotatable shaft carried by the door, a plate carried by said shaft, links pivoted to the ends of said plate, toggle levers connected with said links and to a stationary part on the frame and means for rotating said shaft, such means consisting of an operating lever connected With the shaft.
ln testimony whereof I affix m signature.
UBALD EBERT.
