HANS GUSTAV HANSEN BRZEXKKE BOX FOR KEEPING REGISTERED LETTERS,
AND KRISTIAN JONASSEN, F CHRISTIANIA, NORWAY.
DOCUMENTS, AND THE LIKE, AS WELL AS REGISTER FOR THE SAME.
1 aZZ who mat may concern: g
Be it known that we, Hans iiosrnv Hansen Bnznicnn and Knisrmrr JoNAssnN, cit1- sens of Christiania resp. l-lorten, residing at Lhristiania, Norway, resp. Horten, Karljohansvern, have invented a new and useful Box for Keeping Registered Letters, Documents, and the like, as well as Register for the Same; and we do hereby declare the .lollowing to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same. I
The present invention relates to a box for keeping registered letters, documents and the like, by means of which the documents to be used. selected in a simple and handy The invention has also for its object, such an arrangement of the register in such boxes Fig. 2 is a sectional view of an open box.
Fig. 3 is a sectional plan view of the same.
Figs. i and 5 show a modification of a document slide respectively in side view and. front view. I t
Fig. 6 shows a modification of the register with the same pulled out ready to be used.
Fig. 7 shows the modification shown in Fig. 6, in its inner position.
The portfolios are in usual. manner (118' posedin a box of wood or another suitable material. The size of the box may be chosen as desired, and several boxes may be arranged so as to be placed in ranks and above each other. The portfolios are arranged side by side with their narrow edges turned forward to the door of the box andtheir side faces facing each other.
In these portfolios are placed, the docu ments to be kept in the box. The portfolios 3- are resting on slides, consisting of rigid side covers land a bottom piece -5 to which the covers are fastened by means of nails or like means suitable to the purpose. The slides are guided by means of Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed March 8,
Patent-ed Nov. 23, 1920.
1919. Serial No. 281,513.
guide-lists 6 of wood or metal in the bottom of the box. In order to obtain a light and correct motion the lists may have a flange catching above or into the bottom --5-- of the slide, or vice versa. In the form shown in Figs. 1 to 3 a ribbon or tape --7- of a strong but pliable stuff is fastened to the front part of each slide bottom. This ribbon is disposed. along the inner side of the door -2- Where it is covered by a wall S and passes out through a perforation --9 in the door on the front side of which it terminates in a hoop or a ring -lO--. A similar ring -11 is fastened to the ribbon near the slide or directly in the same.
In Figs. 4: and 5 is shown a modification of the slide, which is here provided with a slope to which the marker number of the portfolio in question is fastened. This marking on the inner side may be used, when the arrangement shown in Figs. 2 and 3 providing for automatic motion of the portfolio by opening the door is not wished. friuch an inner marking is also usefulin removing documents from the box when its door is open..
i In Figs. 6 and 7, -l6- indicates the slide for the register 18.. This slide has no side walls but is placed. in a special room of the box between two rigid side walls -12-. In the lower part of the same there is arranged. a groove "13 the innermost part of which is parallel to the bottom of the slide, whereas the. front part of it is bent somewhat upward. In these grooves a pin --l4., in each side of the slide 16, travels.
The register 18 is turnable in the slide by means of pins -17-, which are held in their places by suitable mechanism When the register is not used it takes up the position shown in Fig. 7 with the pins -14- at the innermost part of the grooves -13-. When the register is to be used it is carried to the position shown in Fig. 6. Hereby the. pins -14- are moved in the grooves -13- and are on account of the weight of the register carried to the upper end of the grooves --13-, when the register is pulled. out.
When the register is to be pushed back in the box it is held closed by one hand (or is closed (see Fig. 1).
a hoop) until the covers are between the walls l2 the slide 16 being by means of the other hand lifted to a horizontal position, then the slide may be pushed back to its innermost position in the box.
When the register is to be replaced by a new one it may be loosened from the slide by pushing to the side the fastening mechanism l5 or the like or drawing it out so that the innermost pin 17 may be lifted from its bearing in the slide, the front pin being afterward drawn back and out.
The arrangement shown in Figs.' 1 to 3 operates in the following manner. a
When the mark, number or the like of the portfolio to be used has been found in the register the corresponding outer ring or hoop is pulled, whereby the slide a, 5 is carried forward together with the portfolio 3 toward the door, which opens and falls down, as it is retained in closed position by a spring catch yielding readily to pressure on the floor, and at the same time the portfolio is carried forward asshown in Figs. 2 and 8, so that it is easily removed from the slide.
' When the portfolio after use is put back on the slide, this is pushed into the box, whereby the ribbon "T is pulled back until the hoop 10' has contact with the outer side of the door, whereupon the same In the box containing the register the arrangement shown in igs. l to 3 may be avoided and the door be arranged to be opened to the side in order that it may not prevent the sloping position of the register slide. 7 j
In other boxes the door 2'- is preferably arranged so that, in its lower position.
it forms a preferably horizontal table, serv ing as a support for the portfolio in use.
Having now described our invention, what we claim as new and desire to secure by Leiters Patent is:
l. In a liling device a box having a hinged door; a plurality of portfolio-carryingslides, mounted within the box an l cash adapted to be drawn out of said box indcaendently of other slides; separate means connected to each of said slides and extend ing through openings in said door to the outside of the casing, said means upon being operated swinging said door on its hinges and. withdrawing said slide.
2. In a filing device a box having a hinged door; a plurality of portfolio-carryi11gslides, mounted within the box and each adapted to be drawn out of said box inde pendently of other slides; a tape connected to each of said slides at a point thereon adjacent the hinged side of said door; guides in said door at the opposite side of said door, through which said tapes pass to the outside of said box; each oi. said tapes, upon being operated swinging said door on its hinges and withdrawing said slide, the position of said tape on said side adjacent the hinges of the door permitting the movement of said door without interfering with the idle tapes.
In testimony whereof, we have signed our names to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
HANS GUSTAV HANSeN BRZEKKE. KRISTIAN JONASSEN.
