COMBINATIQN CURTAIN AND DRAPERY HOLDER.

Be it known that we, MARTHA A. Yarns and OnaviLLn Yarns, citizens et the United States, residing at Portland, in the county of Multnomah and State of Oregon, have invented certain new and useful Improvements '1n Combination Curtain and Drapery Holders; and we do hereby declare the tollowing to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to tixturcs tor supporting curtains and draperies, and the primary object of the invention is to provide an improved combined curtain and drapery holder in which the curtainsl and draperies can be conveniently and expeditiously placed in and removed from position and firmly held against accidental displacement.

Another object of the invention is to pro` vide an improved combined curtain and drapery holder which can be readily adjusted t0 fit various sized window casings am the like and in which the curtain holder and the drapery supporting member can be readily removed from the supporting means.

A further object of the invention is to provide an improved means for connecting the curtains and draperies to the supporting rod, said means being, adjustable longitudinally of the supportingr rod.

A still further object ci' the invention is to provide stationary hooks at each end ot the supporting rod for receiving the ends ot the curtains and draperies so as to hold the same firmly in stretched position and against movement longitudinally of the supporting member and sliding hooks for enaging the curtains and draperies intermeiate the stationary hooks.

A further object of the invention is to provide an improved means for detachably connecting the drapery supporting rod in operative position on the curtain supporting rod.

A still further object et the invention is to provide an improved device of the above character, which is durable and efficient in use, one that is simple and easy to manufacture, and one that can be placed upon the market at a reasonable cost.

With these and other objects in view` the invention consists in the novel construction,

Referring to the drawings in detail, wherein similar reference characters desinfnatc correspoiuling;` parts throughout the several views, the numeral 1 generally indicates the improved combined curtain and drapery holder, which includes the curtain supporting rod 2 and the drapery suppoitin rod 3.

he curtain supporting rod 2 includes telescopic sections 4 and 5 each termed of suitable tubing leaving` upstanding;r V-shaped ribs (5 formed on their upper surface, which tend to strengthen the sections and form means for slidably receiving the hooks 7 for holding` the curtains in position.

The outer terminals of the sections 4 and 5 carry rearwardly extending pins 8 which are adapted to be received in slots 9 formed in the free ends of the supporting brackets 1() which include the alined arcuate hollow sup orting arms 11 and the outwardly exten ing feet 12 which form means whereby the device may be readily secured to the window casing or other support. The feet 12 are of any suitable configuration and are provided with suitable openings 13 for the reception of the fastening elements 14. Each of the supporting arms 11 carry upwardly and outwardly extending hooks for detachably receiving the drapery supporting rod 3, which will be hereinafter more fully described. Each of the supporting arms 11 has a leaf spring 16 secured atA one end thereto and which has the free end overlying the slot 9. The leaf springs are provided with openings 17 for the reception of the pins 8 and effectively hold the curtain supporting rod 2 against accidental displacement from the brackets 10. The outer endsY of the leaf springs are diverged real'- wardly so that the same may be readily grasped and flexed so as to force the same out of engagement with the pins 8 and permit the curtain rod 2 to be taken from the su i iorting brackets.

lach of the supporting brackets has rigidly secured thereto a hook 18 for receiving the ends of the curtains so as to hold the curtains against longitudinal movement on the rod 2. Each of the hooks 18 is formed of Wire or other suitable material and includes an annular portion 19 adapted to embrace the arm 11 and the body portion is suitably secured thereto by solder or the like and the terminals of the annular member are bent in opposite directions to provide upper and lower pins 20 which have the terminals thereof bent rearwardly so as to prevent the accidental displacement of the curtains therefrom, when the same are placed in position. To prevent the pins 20 from becoming broken and distorted, a reinforcing plate 2l is secured to one side thereof.

Each of the hooks 7, which are slidably mounted upon the rod proper 2, is formed from wire or other suitab e material and includes ,a portion 22 which is doubled and bent downwardly in opposite directions to provide the inclined spring legs 23. The wire is then bent forwardly and one of the strands thereof is bent upwardly and the other downwardly to provide pins 24 which are curved rearwardly so as to prevent displacement of the curtain. The pins 24 are prevented from becommg broken and distorted by means of a strengthening plate 25, which is soldered or otherwise secured to and between the pins, and these plates also form means for slidably engaging the outer surface of the sections 4 and 5 so as to prevent the pins from sagging on the rod. It can be seen that the hooks 7 aie readily adjustable on the sections 4 and 5 and can be slid in any desired position on the ribs 6. The pins are also readily removable so that any desired number can be placed on the rod when desired.

The drapery holder 3 is formed o f telescopic sections 26 and 2T, each of which 1ncludes a body plate 28 having the upper and lower edges thereof bent rearwardly and inwardly to provide flanges 29 to prevent accidental displacement of the sections in relation to each other. The outer terminals of the sections 2G and 2T are bent rearwardly to provide supporting arms 30, which have their upper and lower edges provided with aliued openings 31 for detachably receiving the hooks l5. 'lhus it can be seen that the drapery holder 3 can be readily removed or placed ou the hooks 15 and used in connection with the curtain holder. Each i, the sections 26 and 27 have secured thereto adjacent their outer ends, the hooks 32 which have upwardly and downwardly extending penetrating prongs 33 formed thereon which are curved rearwardly so as to prevent displacement of the draperies. These hooks 32 form means for engaging the outer edges of the draperies so as to eifectively hold the draperies in position and prevent movement of the same longitudinally on the drapery holder. The drapery supporting rod 3 has also slidably and detachably mounted thereon the hooks 34 for detachahly engaging the intermediate portions of the curtain and each of these hooks include clips 35 formed of wire or the like having a body portion 36 arranged to slidably engage the outer face of the sections 2G and 2T and rearwardly and inwardly extending hooked terminals for engaging the upper and lower surfaces and rear edges of the sections 2G and 27. The clips 35 carry the upwardly and downwardly extending pins 38 having the rearwardly curved terminals 39 for engaging into the draperies.

'hen the curtains and draperies are being applied to the rods 2 and 3, respectively, the outer edges of the curtains and draperies are applied to the upper terminals of the clips 18 and the upper terminals of the hooks 32 are then secured to the intermediate hooks '7 and 34. The free upper edges of the curtains are then brought downwardly in rear of the rods 2 and 3 and the lower terminals of the pins of the hooks 7 and 34 are inserted through the curtains and draperies which effectively holds the curtains and draperies against displacement and covers the hooks so that the same will not be noticed.

From the foregoing description, it can be seen that an improved curtain and drapery holder is provided which has an improved means for detachably holding the curtains and draperies in position and which permits of the ready nemoval of the curtain and drapery supporting means.

In practice, we have found that the form of our invention illustrated in the accompanying drawings and referred to in the above description, as the preferred embodiment, is the most efficient and practical; yet realizing the conditions concurrent with the adoption of our device will necessarily vary, we desire to emphasize that various minor flmnges in details of Construction. proportion und arrangement of parte muy be re- :sorted to. when required without sacrificing any of tln` advantages of our invention :is set forth,
