TOY AEROPLANE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 16, 1920.
Application filed June 24, 1919. Serial No. 306,424.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK H. LEE, a citizen of the United States, residing at El in, in the county of Antelope and State of Nebraska, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toy Aeroplanes, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to toys and has for its object to provide a top aeroplane for children, which may be pushed ahead of them as they run thereby revolving awheel, which is belted to a propeller shaft, also to provide the device with a transversely disposed plane.
With the above and other objects in view the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawings, described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
The single figure shows the device in position for use.
Referring to the drawing, the numeral 1 designates an inclined bar, which is adapted to be held in substantially a &5 degree angle to the ground, and 2 a steering wheel adapted to be grasped by the hands of the operator. The lower end of the bar 1 has secured thereto as at 3 bracket 4; and between said brackets is pivoted a wheel 5, which wheel is adapted to rest upon and roll upon the ground. Secured to said wheel and adapted to rotate therewith is a pulley 6.
Secured at 7 to the bar 1 and extending forwardly in substantially horizontal relation to the ground is a bar 8, the forward ends of which are provided with downwardly extending lugs 9, which lugs have rotatably mounted therein a shaft 10. See cured to the forward end of the shaft 10 is a propeller 11 and also secured to said shaft 10 is a pulley 12. The shaft 10 is rotated by a belt 13, which passes around pulleys 6 and 12. Bar 8 is braced in relation to bar 1 by braces 1a and transversely disposed on bar 8 and secured thereto by rivets 15 1s a plane 16, said plane being longitudinally v braced by bars 17.
The operator grasps the steering wheel 2 then runs forwardly, wheel 5 being in engagement with the ground will cause the pulley 6 to rotate and consequently through the medium of thebelt 15, pulley l2 and its shaft will be rotated, which will cause the rotation of the propeller 11.
The invention having been set forth what is claimed as new and useful is l. A device of the character described comprising a frame, said frame being substantially triangular shaped, the apex of said frame being provided with handle means, the lower end of one side of said triangular shaped frame having rotatably mounted therein a wheel, a shaft rotatably mounted in bearings on the other side of the triangular shaped frame, a propeller carried by said shaft, a pulley mounted on said shaft, a belt extending around said pulicy and around a pulley on the wheel and a plane extending transversely across said frame and secured to one side thereof.
2. A device of the character described comprising a frame, said frame having a downwardly and forwardly extending handle member, a wheel pivoted in a bifurcation of said handle member and adapted to engage the ground, a pulley carried by said wheel, a downwardly extending horizontally disposed bar carried by the handle member, brace members between said bar and the handle member, the under face of the forward end of the bar being provided with downwardly extending lugs, a shaft rotatably mounted in bearings of said lugs and provided with a propeller, a pulley carried by said shaft and at right angles to the pulley of the wheel, a belt extending around the wheel pulley and the shaft pulley, said belt forming means whereby the shaft and propeller will be revolved during a for ward movement of the wheel while in engagement with the ground, said shaft pulley being disposed in vertical alinement with the wheel pulley.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
FRANK H. LEE.
