PATENT OFFICE.
JOHANNES BENJAMIN EEN', F VOSS, NORWAY.
JOINT FOR' SECTIONAL BUILDINGS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 2, 1920.
Application filed July 1, 1920. Seria1 No. 393,409.
7 To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JoHANNns BENJAMIN.
EnN, a subject of the King of Norway, residing at Voss, Norway, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Joints for Sectional Buildings; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to improvements in building structures composed of ready made wooden sections, the object of the invention being to obtain a quick and secure mounting of the partition walls of such buildings in such way as to obtain simultaneously also a secure interlockingof the adjoining floor sections.
The accompanying drawing illustrates by way of example in vertical section one manner of interlocking two partition walls and two floor sections according to this invention.
The frame members or beams 2 of the two adjoining floor sections are on their abutting sides provided with oppositely disposed rabbets forming a tongue 3 on one beam which seats in a recess 5 in the other beam, and a tongue 6 on the latter that seats in a recess l in the abutting beam, each of said beams being wider at its abutting edge than the remainder of the beam, whereby a portion 9 will project at an angle to the remainder of the beam. The floor boards 7 and ceiling boards 8 of the floor sections are cut short so as to end at the point where the angular portion merges into the horizontal portion of the beams, the floor boards and ceiling boards of adjacent sections thus forming between them an open groove for the r ception oi the respective partition wall sections 11 and 12. Each of the brace members 10 of said partition wall sections is provided in one or' its edges with a recess so formed as to straddle the projecting portions of the abutting beams, whereby the partition wall sections will lock the two adjoining floor sections in place, and are themselves also looked in place in relation to the said floor sections by means of the floor and ceiling boards respectively. i
It will be apparent that the scope of the invention is not limited to the special forms 01 the engaging parts 8-el--56.
Claims.
1. A building structure, comprising hori zontal beams having their abutting sides overlapping in interlocking relation, each of said beams also having at said interlocking sides at its upper and lower sides a portion lying in a plane at an angle to the remainder of the beam, and a brace member at the upper and lower sides of said beams, each of said brace members having a recess in its edge adapted to straddle the abutting angular portions of said beams.
L. A building structure, comprising horizontal beams having their abutting sides overlapping in interlocking relation, each of said beams being wider at its abutting sides than the remainder of the beam, and a brace member having in its edge a recess adapted to straddle the abutting sides of said beams.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention, I have signed my name in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JOHANNES BENJAMIN EEN.
