TOY.
Application filed February 26, 1920. Serial No. 361,571.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, IGNATIUS MAISANO, a citizen of the United States, residing at Wilmington, in the county of New Castle and State of Delaware, have invented new and useful Improvements in Toys, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a trundling toy which may be drawn or pushed over the floor or ground, such movement causing a wheel-like frame to rotate in a vertical plane and ring a bell, or a plurality of bells,
of which are secured bearings 11. supporting a cross shaft or axle 12. The ends of.
the shaft 12 project beyond the sides of the platform 10 and carry wheels 13 fixed thereon, the travel of said wheels over the floor or ground causing the shaft to turn.
' The shaft 12 carries a drum 23 the purpose of which is described later. At the forward end of the platform 10 is a handle 14 by means of which the toy may be pulled or pushed.
Two supports 15, spaced apart, rise Ver tically from the platform 10 and are con-' nected near their tops by a cross rod 16. The supports 15, shown as towers or belfries, are given ornamental outlines. Each support 15 has a vertically elongated opening 9 formed therein a suitable distance above the platform 10 to receive the end of a transverse axle 17 upon which is mounted a relatively large frame or wheel 18 ro-v tatable between said supports. The wheel 18 consists of two spaced disks 19 secured on the opposite ends of the hub 20 carried by the axle 17, the disks being connected further by a plurality of rods 21 extending between them near their peripheries. The
wheel 18 normally rests upon the drum 23 by reason of the cooperation of the elongated openings 9 with the transverse axle 17.
Pivotally suspended figures or automata 22 are hung on the rods or trapeze bars 21 so asto move freely thereon and swing to and fro or assume different positions as the wheel 18 revolves due to its gravital contact with the drum 23. The wheel 18 rotates freely irrespective of the mode of propul- I 'sion whether backward or forward.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Oct. 26, 1920.
' A bell 24: is suspended from the rod 16 the latter connecting with the'tops of the supports 15, the bell having a swinging clapper 25 adapted to be struck by the rods or trapeze bars-21 as they pass the bell. Two or more bells may be used, as also bells of Varied type and tone. Flags 26 are or may be displayed on shafts projecting from different parts of the supports 15, thus adding to the amusing and educational character of the toy.
The several parts entering into the structure described may be of wood or metal, or a combination of the two substances.
I claim A 1. A toy comprising aplatform mounted on wheels fixed to an axle and adapted to be drawn or pushed along the flooror ground,
supports fixed to said platform, a relatively large wheel between said supports journaled in vertical slots in the latter, rods or trapeze bars carried by said wheel, figures hung from said rods or bars and free to swing or turn over thereon, a bell mounted on said supports, a swinging clapper for said bell adapted to be drawn or pushed along the floor or ground, a drum rigid with said axle, a pair of supports mounted on the platform and spaced apart, each support having a vertlcally elongated opening therein, a relatively large wheel rotatable between said supports and journ'aled in said elongated openings to allow the wheel to rest upon said drum and to be rotated thereby, said wheel comprising spaced disks,
' adapted to be struck by said rods during the rotation of said wheel, and a drum fixed on a hub and trahsverse rods or trapeze bars In testimony whereof I affix my signature a bell mounted on the supports and adapted 1n presence of two Witnesses.
'to be soundedby periodic Contact with said 7 IGNATYIUSE MAEISANQ.
rods, and figures depending from said rods.
01' trapeze bars and adapted to exhibit Witnesses:
