This invention relates to improvements in mud guards, an object of the invention being to provide an improved guard adapted to be used on Ford cars and which acts as a shield to prevent the throw of mud against the radiator by the wheels. 7
A further object is to provide a mud guard secured to the ordinary guards of the car and extending across the front of the car at the lower rtion of the radiator.
With these an other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts aswill be more fully hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings- Figure 1 is a view in front elevation illustrating my improved guard in position on a car- Fig. 2 is a fragmentary perspective view showing one end of the guard secured to the ordinary guard; .and
Fig. 3 is a view in section on line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
1 represents an ordinary Ford car having a radiator 2 at its front end and provided with the ordinary mud guards 3, 3, positioned on the wheels 4.
5 represents my improved mud guard which is preferably of sheet metalhaving a straight intermediate portion 6 located across and at the end of theradiator, and having a notch 7 in its upper edge receiving the starting crank 8. A rearwardly projecting flange 6' is provided on the upper edge of the intermediate portion 6 and is positioned directly under the radiator 2.
Forwardly projecting wings 9 are provided. at the ends of the intermediate ortion 6 and from the upper edges of t ese wings 9 guards 10 project and slightly overlap the inner portions 11 of the guards 3 and are secured thereto by bolts 12 and nuts 13 or other approved securing devices.

' guards, the mud from the wheels cannot be thrown against the radiator, as is the case with Ford cars in general use, and the attachment can be manufactured and sold at a reasonably low price and attached by any one of average intelligence, not requiring skilled labor. The attachment canbe made from a single blank or may constitute separate pieces secured together, and the guard may be ornamented and strengthened in any ap roved manner. 7
t will also be noted that the wings 9 and guards 10 are inclined outwardly from their inner or rear edges to their outer or forward H edges, to effectively shield the radiator from the throw of the wheels.
Various slight changes might be made in the general form of the parts described without departing from my invention, and hence I do not limit myself to the precise details set forth, but consider myself at liberty to make such slight changes and alterations as fairly fall within the spirit and 800%)6 of the appended claims.

v 1. A mud guard of the character stated, comprising a vertically disposed intermediate portion, wings projecting forwardly from the ends of the intermediate portion, and guards extending upwardly and outwardly from the wings.
2. The combination with an automobile having a radiator and having mud guards located beside the same and extending upwardly and outwardly over the wheels, of a radiator mud guard comprising a vertically disposed intermediate portion located below the forward edge of the radiator, forwardly projecting wings fixed to the intermediate portion, and upwardly and outwardly flaring guards on the wings fixedly secured to said first mentioned guards.
3. The combination with an automobile, having a radiator and having mudguards located beside the same and extending upwardly and outwardly over the wheels of the automobile, of a radiator mud guard comprising a straight portion located against the lower front rtion of the radiator, wings projecting orwardly from the ends of the straight portion, and upwardly and outwardly projecting guards on the I wings secured to the first mentioned guards.
