Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FOSTER MILLIKEN, OF LAWRENCE, NEW YORK, .ASSIGNOR T0 FOSTER MILLIKEN, S. FULLERTON WEAVER, AND JAMES M. REPPLIER, AS TRUSTEES.
ALLOY.
No Drawing.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, FosTER MILLIKEN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Lawrence, in the county of Nassau and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Alloy, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
he object of the invention is to provide a new and improved alloy more especially designed as a high temperature metal capable of being manufactured into bolts, fittings and other articles subjected to high temperatures.
Another object is to provide an alloy capable of withstanding the corrosive action of boiling concentrated or dilute sulfuric acid. There are other boiling acids which this alloy will withstand such, for instance, as tartaric and citric acids. While the alloy is not immune to nitric or hydrochloric acids hot or cold, it will, however, withstand the action of these acids to a considerable extent and much better than many other metals. l
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 5, 1920.
Application filed October 8, 1919. Serial No. 329,189.
The alloy consists of the following ingredients in approximately the following proportions, namely:
Iron 16 to 20 per cent. Chromium 5 to 7 per cent. Copper 31 to 38 per cent. Nickel 38 to 46 per cent. Manganese 71: to per cent.
FOSTER MILLIKEN.
