Be it'known that l, ANDREW'L. HAT'FIELD, afcitizen of the'llnited States, 'residing at Hillside, in the county `Vand useful Improvements IV in Gage-Glass Y Guards;l and I do hereby declare the following to be a fullc`lear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled inthe art torwhich it appertainsto make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to characters of reference marked thereon, which Yform a part oftliis specification.'V

.lVith the various objects of the present invention in view, the same consists, primarily, in the novel construction of steam boiler water gage guard hereinafter set forth, and,
the invention consists, furthermore, in the several novel arrangements and combinations of the various devices and parts, as well as in the details of construction of the same, all of which will be more fully described in Ythe following specification, and then finally embodied in the claims appended thereto. i Y

Referring now to vsaid drawings, the reference character l indicates an upper tting or socket member for. connection with a steam. boiler, or the like, (not shown), and Y thereierence character n fitting oi socket member-for like connection 2 indicates a lower with said steam boiler.
Each socket member or fitting l and 2 is provided with an extethreaded stufling-box neck 3,having a cylindrical opening 4 for the reception of the ends .of the tubular gage glass v5. An internally threaded cap or nut 6, having a central opening 7 in the' body thereof, to permit an end of the gage glass 5 to extend therethrough, screws upon `each stufiing box neck 3, to hold under expanded pressure and inA tightly embracing relation to the ends of the gage glass a suitable packing 8, adapted to thus form leak tight joints between' the D and tlierespective ends of said gage glass inserted therein.
Thefnovel protecting guard comprises a body portion YQadapted to surround the gage -glass and so constructed as to provide a submaintained against longitudinal contraction or expansion, while its end portions l0 constructed to be readily conso that the same will yield to a loosening or unscrewing .movement of the caps orrnuts G from the fittings l and 2, when either applying or removing a gage glass toY or from said fittings.
