Description

UNITED s'ra'ras PATENT LOFQFIT'CE. j
BASIL E. WISE, or CANTON, OHIO.
COMPOSITION FOR RAZOR OR OTHER STROPS.
1,353,979. No Drawing.
To all whom it my concern.
Be it known that I, BASIL E. WISE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Canton, in the county of Stark and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Composition for Razor or other Strops, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a new and useful composition to be applied to prepared surfaces such as razor strops or razor stropping devices for the purpose of increasing their efiiciency during the honing or stropping of razors, safety razor blades or other sharp instruments; and at the same time impart- ,ing pliability to the strop or stropping device to which the composition is applied.
The objects of the invention are to produce a composition of this character which maybe easily and readily applied to the surface of a razor strop or stropping device for the purpose of stropping or honing razors, safety razor blades or other sharp edged instruments and at the same time impart pliability to the strop or stropping device.
With these objects in view the invention consists in the novel proportions and arrangement of parts, hereinafter described, and particularly pointed out in the append= .30 ed claims, it being understood that various changes in the form, proportions, and minor details of, the compositlon may be made 1 within the scope of the appended claims,-
without departin from the s irit or sacrificin any of the advanta y improved composition consists substantially ofa mixture of powdered mineral filler of superior qualit such as powdered or pulverized carborun um and aloxite and 40 of superior quality non-poisonous powdered mineral matter, such as talc either white or colored.
In preparing the composition I refer to use the ingredients in about the ollowingproportions 8 parts of powdered or pulverized carborundum, I o
2 parts powdered or pulverized talc, either white or colored. The above ingredients are thoroughly mixedand may be applied as a powder to the surface of the trop or stropping device and when used. inthe powdered form it may be necessary to add a few drops of fine oil to the surface of the strop or stropping device before applying the composition. It will ges o the invention. c

Application filed August 4, 1919. Serial No. 815,245.
be understood that the proportion of the colored talc may be increased should a more pronounced color be desired in the composition.
- The following formula may also be used in powdered form: v
4 parts of powdered or pulverized carborundum,
4 parts powdered or pulverized aloxite,
2 parts powdered or pulverized talc, either white or colored.
In preparing the powdered ingredients a very fine sifting device is used to collect any small particles not powdered so that the mixture may be uniform and softened to the proper degree of fineness in order that it may be applied to the most delicate sharp ed ed instruments.
he composition may also be prepared in aste or cream form with the addition of rened petrolatum to the above named ingredients. it is preferable in preparing the paste or cream to use the following proportions:
fii'parts of powdered or pulverized carborundum and aloxite;
2 parts of powdered or pulverized talc,
either white or colored I 8 parts of refined petrolatum.
The above formula is mixed to a proper consistency ready forimmediate use and should be applied in a light coat upon the strop or stropping device and smoothed with the palm of the hand. Good results may also be -obtainedwhen all of the minerals are blended with parowax in the following proportions:
(1 4 parts powdered or pulverized carborunum; I
4 parts powdered or pulverized aloxite; 2 parts powdered or pulverized talc;
. 5 parts parowax. v
The powdered minerals when properly blended are then ,added to the parowax which has been reduced to a liquid form and the composition is then mixed to a proper consistency and placed in earthen or metal molds of a desired shape or in wooden forms and allowed to cool to a solid state when' it is ready'for use.
The powdered or pulverized minerals entering into this composition should'be the.
finestthat can be obtained in the market. The powdered tale .is used in the composition as a medium to reduce the ingredients to a variable powdered'consistency, and can be more readily used in a -dusting or sifting process and lends a mellowed softness to the composition which may be applied to the most delicate sharp edged instrumentswith satisfactory results. The petrolatum is used to reduce the powdered ingredients to the cream or paste form and the parowax to reduce the powdered ingredients to solid form or to any desired consistency whidh may be obtained by varying the proportions of the different ingredients and WhlCh will yet be susceptible to sharp edged instruments for honing and stropp'ing purposes.
The composition" is not restricted to the exactproportions of the different ingredients-as above set fdrth as these proportionsmay be more or less varied as requirements and co'nditions of the ingredients used ma call for a variation in the proportions use This composition may no,t only serve to constitute an abrading surface of superior quality for. honing or stropping razors,- safety -'razor blades and the like but it will also serve to preserve the necessary pliability and suppleness of the strop orother surface to which it is applied.
Although the above specification discloses the best mode in which I have con- 1. A composition forrazor strops or the like for [honing urposes composed of powdered or pu verizedcarborundum, powdered or pulverized aloxite, powdered talc and petrolatum and parowax. v
2. A composition for r'azor strops or the like for honing "purposes, comprising about four parts of powdered or pulverized carborundum, four parts of powdered or pulverized aloxite, two parts of powdered talc and eight parts of petrolatum to be used in cream or paste form.
In testlrnony that I claim the above, I-
have hereunto subscribed m name.
