To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY J UDSON H01,-
maroon, a citizen of the United States, residbeing had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates'to electrical snap switches and more particularly to that type of snap switch adapted to automatically disconnect current from the source of power.
An important object of the invention is to provide a switch of the above character whlch will automatically extinguish lights upon the closing or opening of a, door as desired.
A further object of the invention is to provide a device of the above character which is extremel simple in construction and o eration an which may be cheaply manu actured.
These and other objects I obtain by the combination and arrangement of the parts illustrated in the accompanying drawings,

Referring now more particularly to the drawings, in which like reference characters designate like parts throughout, m switch comprises a base 10 having mounte thereon a rotary snap switch 11 of the usual construction. The base 10 is provided with openings 12 by means of which the switch may beattached to a suitable support. A casing- 13 is provided through which the o crating stem of the snap switch extends, t e operating stem being provided exteriorly of the casing with an operating thumb piece 14. The swigch may likewise be rovided with the usu .on and off signs: s, if desired.
The operating stem 15of the switch has secured thereto, in an suitable manner, a cam 16, embodying diametrically opposed cam shoulders 17. A plate 18, or master plate, is rotatably mounted upon the stem ad acent the cam 16 and has pivotally mounted thereon a do 19. This dog embodies a shoulder 20 a apted to en age the cam shoulders 17 of the cam 16, an is held in firm engagement with the cam by means of a sprlng 21 which engages the dog upon the reduced extension 22 thereof, and the master plate 18 upon an integral hook shaped extension 23. The spring 21 is of the compression type andv constantly forces the shoulder 20 of the dog 19 into en agement with the cam 16. Binding 0% the shoulder 20 upon the cam 16 is prevented by means of the shoulder 19 formed onthe dog WlllCh engages against one side of the master plate 18. s
The master plate 18 is provided with an elongated slot 24 adapted to receive a pin 25 rlgidly mounted in a longitudinally shlftable bar 25. This bar is normally held in the position shown in the Figs. 2 and 3 by means of a tension spring 26 secured to the bar as at 27 and to the casing 13 as at 28. The ends of the bar are slidably mounted in suitable openings formed in the side walls of the casing 13 and one end of the bar is provided with a cushioning element 29' formed of rubber or the like.
In the application shown in Fig. 1, the switch is secured to the frame 20 of the door in such a manner that the cushioning element mounted on the bar 25 extends into the path of the door 31 when closing, as indicated by the dotted lines on this figure. It will be 0 vious that when. the,door is com.-

It will therefore be seen that if the current is turned on it will be disconnected through the snap switch upon closing of the door. This device may be applied to either ri ht hand or left hand opening doors by simply inverting the switch, and may be adapted for igniting the lights upon opening or closing the door by simply altering the position of the cam shoulders by shifting the cam throughBOi. upon the operating stem 15 of the switch.
-As many other changes of similar character and in the shape, size and arrange ment of the various parts herein shownmay be readily made, I do not limit myself to the particular construction hereinbefore 'set forth, but may make any such changes with ,out departing from the spirit'of the inven- 'tion or thescope of the subjoined claims,-
