LIDSU?PORTING DEVICE.
Application filed December 6,1919. Serial No. 343,030.
State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Lid-Supporting Devices, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to devices for supporting in raised position hinged parts, such as the lids or covers of articles of furniture, boxes and the like, and has as its object to provide a device of this sort which is simple in construction, which may be easily manufactured and installed, and which is reversible so that it may be attached to either end of the lid to be supported.
1n the accompanying drawing, wherein is shown the preferred embodiment the in vention, V
Figure 1 is a side elevational view, and
Fig. 2 is an edge view'o'f the improved device.
Referring to he drawing in detail, a designates an article of furniture or cabi net of any sort having a hinged cover 6, and c designates generally the device for supporting the lid inraised position.
The lid supporting device 0 comprises a pair or" pivotally connected links 10 and 11 formed of metal strips. The link 10 is pivotally connected at one end to a plate 12 secured to the lid 6 and the other end of this link is bent back upon itself to form a loop 13 the sides of which are parallel and sufiiciently spaced to receive the .end of the link 11. Opposite edges of the closed end of the loop are cut away as at 1 1, 15, to uniformly reduce its width. One end of the link 11 is positioned between the sides of the loop 13 and is connected thereto as by means of a pin 16. The other end ofthe link, which is connectedto the cabinet at, is offset as at 17 so that when the lid is closed down the support will clear the side of the cabinet.
The support described is of advantage in that the parts may be very cheaply manufactured and installed. When the lid is open,
as shown in full lines Fig. 1, the upper end I of the link 11 is positioned between the sides of the loop 13 and supported thereby so that the links are unable to bow out laterally. The pin 16, in additionto serving as a pivot, secures the sides of the loop against spreading apart.
Specification of LettersPatent. Patented Sept. 14, 1920.
The device may be attached either to the right or left hand side of the cabinet. In Fig. 1 it is shown on the right hand side. To attach it to the left hand side, the link 11 is swung about the pin 16 and into engagement with abutment 14:, and the device turned on its longitudinal axis for half a revolution.
It is of course obvious that my invention is susceptible of various modifications and chan es which are within the spirit of the invention without departing from the scope of the following claims, it being understood that the present disclosureof my invention is by way of illustration only and it is not to be taken as restrictive of my conception.
I claim as my invention: 1. A lid supporting device including a link having one end bent back upon itself to form a loop open along both longitudinal edges of said link, a second link having one end positioned between the sides of the said loop, and means pivotally connecting the end of the second link between the sides of said loop. 2. A lid supporting device including a'link formed of a fiat strip of metal having one end bent back upon itself to form an elongated loop open along both longitudinal edges of said link, the edges of the closed end of said loop being cut away, a second link formed of a fiat strip of metal and having one end positioned between the sides of said loop, and a pin extending through the sides of the loop and the end of the second link positioned therebetween.
3. A lid supporting device including a link having one end bent'back upon itself to form a loop unobstructed at one end, and a link having an end positioned in the loop and pivoted to swing from one side of the loop to the other. 1
