lie it known that l, DAVID C. BLAKE, a citizen of the United States, residing,r at Durham, in the county ot Durham and State of North Carolina, have invented certain new and useful lmprovements in Screen Door and lVindow Construction, of which the following` is a specification, reference be ingr had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to screen door and window construction and has for its object to provide an improved method or construction of thischaracter capable of being used for both windows and screen doors, and `wherein the screen fabric is not only secured at its edges to the frame, but is also clamped to the frame adjacent its edges so that it is impossible for the sameV to accidentally disengage itself from the frame and in fact, will resist any effort to force the screen from the frame `unless the screen is removed in the proper manner.
Another object is to provide a construction of this character including a 'frame composed of two sections secured to each other, the joints of the sections being disposed in angular relation with respect to each other to brace said joints.
' Another object is to provide means for securing;r the wire fabric. to one section, said means also serving` as a tenon for connecting the parts of said sections to each other.
Another object is to provide a construction of this character which eliminates the forming of mortise and tenon joints in the meet-4 ing ends of the parts of the frame, so as to strengthen the frame.
With these and other objects in vieu7 the invention consists in the improved construction and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more particularly described, fully claimed and illustrated in the accompanying,r drawings, -in which Figure 1 is a vertical elevation view of a screen closure constructed in accordance with an embodiment of the invention, a portion of one of the sections being cut away to show the inner face of the adjacent seetion;

Fig. 3 is a vertical elevation of the joint of one of the sections of the closure.
Referring to drawings, 5 designates a closure constructed in the form of a Window screen or door and is composed of two sections (l and Y.

Each of the side members S) has the end portions of its inner marginal edges reduced as at 10 to provide a canted shoulder 11. 1t will be noted that tne inner marginal edges of the members 8 and 9 are beaded or provided lwith various designs of molding. r1`he adjacent member 8 has the corner 12 of its end portion canted. The end portion 13 of the member 8 is intended to engage the reduced portion 10 of the inember While the canted corner 12 engages the canted shoulder 11.

The end portions of the key 17 extends bevond the ends 13 of the members S to provide tenons 18 adapted to be received in the mortise grooves 14.. The tenons 18 extend laterally of the'reduced portion of the members 9 and not only serve to hold the corners of the screen faerie in engagement with the section 6 but also in connectingl the members 8 and 9 to each other without requiring` tbe formation of mortise and 'tenen joints in said members which Would greatly weaken the structure, To further assist si'lrengthening the members 8 and 9 a bracket 19 is secured to the vmembers 8 and 9 and extends over the miterecl joints of the canted shoulder 11 and corner 12.
The section 7 includes top and bottom members 2O and side members 21, the end portions of each of the members 20 and 2l. being mitered for engagement with each other. The members of section 7 are intended to be disposed over the surface of the section 6 having the keys 1G and 17 and se cured thereto. This clamps the portion of wire fabric extending over the inner marginal edge of the section (i between said sections, so that additional securing means is thereby provided. Furthermore, the engagement of the end portions 13 of the members 8 and reduced portions 10 of thf. members S) form a straight joint, while the mitered ends of the members 2O and 21 form angular joints and serve to strengthen each other. The mitered end portions of the members 20 extend over the joints of the members 8 and 9 to assist in further securingr the members of section 6 to each other.
Securing means such as screws, may be used for fastening the members 20 and 21 to the members 8 and 9.
From the foregoing it will be readily seen that I this invention provides a novel and substantial form of construction for closures, which permits screen doors to be made in various styles, that is, including panels1 and other forms of design as the struct-ure is firmly braced and will last indefinitely. lt can also be used in the construction of screen Windows, closures for sky-lights, and in fact any form of screen closure desired. A n important feature of this invention is that the wire fabric is so firmly secured that it affords security not possible with the old method of securing screen fabric to a frame as it is not only fastened in the grooves of retrete the section 6 by the keys 1G and 17, but is also clamped between the members, and will therefore resist any force to pry the fabric from the sections. ln fact the fabric itself will be broken or mutilated by the force before the marginal edges thereof will be separated t'rom the section 6 so that it is impossible for a person to force the hand between the screen fabric and the sections to unfasten the closure Without mutilating the screen fabric.

screen closure comprising two sections adapted to engage cach other, each section including top, bottom and side members, cach of the members of one section having 'a longitudinal groove in one face thereof, the end portions otsaid side members having a laterally extending mortise groove intersecting the end portions of the longitudinal groove, the end portions of the top and bottom members of said section engaging the side portions et' the side members, screen fabric extending over said sections and having its ends disposed in the groove, key members disposed in said grooves for holding the screen fabric therein, the end portions of the key of the top and bottom members extending beyond the'ends of said members to provide tenons, said tenons being disposed in the mortise grooves of the side members, the top and bottom side members of the other section having their ends mitered and engaged with each other, the end portions of the top and bottom members of the second mentioned section extending over the adjacent joints and tenons of the first mentioned section, and means for securing said sections to each other.
