XGLON O. BAY, OF CIIAFFEE, IEISSUUlE/I- D'l'SPLAY-gTAlbi'll Application filed December isle. Serial he. seems.
T 0 all whom, it may concern: 1
Be it known that XoLoN 0. RAY a citizen of the United States, residing at Chaffee, in the county of Scott and State of E lissouri, have invented new and useful improvements in Display-Stands, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to display stands and comprehends the provision of a novel construction and combination wherein the stand is supported for oscillating movement so that the merchandise arranged upon the stand'will be displayed to the best advantage.
The nature and advantages of the inven tion will be better understood when the following detailed description is read in connection with the accompanying drawing, the invention residing in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts as claimed.
In the drawing forming part of this specification like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views, wherein:
Figure 1 is a View in front elevation of the stand constructed in accordance with my invention.
Fig. 2 is a top plan view.
ig. 3 is a sectional view taken on line 3-8 of Fig. 1, looking in the direction of the arrows.
Fig. 4 is a sectional view taken on line 4-4 of Fig. 2 looking in the direction of the arrows.
Referring more particularly to the drawings in detail'lO indicates the base, which may vary in size and configuration, and be utilized to support the motor indicated generally at A. The motor herein disclosed is similar to the well known construction of fan motor wherein the motor ll'is pivotally associated with its support 12, and embodies means whereby the motor is given an oscillatory movement in horizontal plane during the operation. The support 12 is secured in any suitable manner upon the base 10. The motor herein shown is employed merely to illustrate the principles of the invention, as any other type of motor or suitable means may be employed to com municate an oscillatory movement .to the display stand B.
The display stand B preferably consists of a vertically disposed wall or partition 13, which has its opposite side edges stepped as at 14, to support in spaced superimposed relation a number of shelves 15 and a circular top 16, the shelves being substantially circular in outline while the top and shelves successively vary in diameter as shown.
T he top 16 reposes upon the upper edge of the wall 13. Connecting the adjacent extremities of the lowermost shelf 15 is a strip 17, between which and the uppermost shelf are disposed spacing element 18 terminally secured to said parts. The wall or partition 13' adjacent the lower edge thereof is pro vided with an opening 19 from which projects a forwardly extending strip 20 having its forward end secured to the underside of the lowermost shelf as shown. The strip 20 supports a vertically disposed bracing element 21 which is arranged between the strip 20 and the strip 22. A second strip 22 projects from the wall in parallelism with the strip 20 and is connected with the underside of the uppermost shelf to support the latter, while a bracing element 23 rises from the strip 22and is connected to the top 16. The top and shelves are each covered with some suitable material, such as velvet or the like, while rising from the inner periphery of said shelves are walls 24: constructed from cardboard or other suitable material, and covered with the same material which is utilized for covering the shelves and top. The walls 2% are of a height to completely close the space between the shelves and between the uppermost shelf and the top 16, while an additional wall 2-5 of similar construction depends from the outer periphery of the lowermost shelf to conceal from the view the lower portion of the wall 13 and the base 10. By reason of this construction and arrangement the motor or operating mechanism for the display stand is wholly concealed from view, and affords the stand proper an artistic appearance.
Radiating from the motor 11 are bracket arms 26 to properly support the stand. As shown the arms are terminally secured to the wall or partition 13 and as a consequence, the stand is oscillated simultaneously with such movement of the motor 11. It is of course understood that the component parts of the stand may be constructed from any suitable material, preferably of material which will render the stand very light. While any kind of merchandise may be supported upon the top and shelves of the stand for display, it is primarily intended to use the stand for the display of jewelry, and manifestly merchandise of this character can be displayed to the best advantage on a movable stand, as the stand is oscillated, the jewelry such as diamonds and other precious stones afford the desired effect to those viewing the same from a window or the like.
While I have shown and described what I consider the preferred embodiment of the invention, I desire to have it understood that I do .not limit myself in this connection inasmuch as such changes may be resorted to when desired as fall within the scope of what is claimed.
ma am What I claim is:--
A display stand including a plurality of spaced. superimposed shelves of different diameters, a top wall, a wall depending from the top and having its opposed edges, stepped to support said shelves, means for closing the space between the shelves, arms projecting forwardly from the depending wall, bracing elements carried by said arms and arranged between the shelves, and means associated with said depending wall for supporting the stand for oscillatory movement.
In-testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
