This invention relates to the artof toys, and particularly to the convertlble kind,
wherein the parts are changeable to various positions,
or one part substituted for another and vice versa, and so on whereby various articles of" toy furniture may be constructed.
Primarily, a to of this the invention aims to provide kind, which is simple and practica in construction, consisting of very few parts, and capable of being very cheaply p made, the result being that the entire toy can be sold at a very reasonable profit.
Another object involves a toy which can be Very easily knocked down and taken apartjand then arran ed in a compact form, the main support 0 the toy acting as a frame of a boxing, while certain parts of the toy act as the sides so as to receive the other parts. The whole in this compact form is capable of being carried in a suitable case, such as illustrated in the drawings, so that the toy can be either stored away or be carried from one place to another very easily and conveniently.
While the design and construction at present illustrated and set forth is deemed preferable, it is obvious that as a result of a reduction of the invention to a more practical form forcommercial purposes, the invention may be susceptible to changes, and the right to these changes is claimed, provided they scope of What is claimed.
The invention comprises further features and combination of parts, asWill be hereready to be disposed in the casing arranged Fig. 2 is a pdrspective .view of certain parts of the toy to be used as astand, table or game board,

showing certain of the arts arranged to provide .a simple form 0 desk and writin table with a back piece in the rear, an when the partsare so arranged, it is very easy to convert this form or construction into a blackboard, such as shownin Fig. 6.
Fig. 4 is "a View in perspective showing the parts arranged to provide another form of writing desk, there being means thereon for containing envelops, writing paper and thelike,
Fig; 5 is a sectional view on line 5-5 of Fig 4,
' ig. 6 is a perspective view showin the parts of the toy arranged to provide a black board, the parts having been moved from the position shown in Flg. 3 to provide such a black board,
Fig. 7 is a View in pers ective' showing the arts of the toy arrange to provide another form of black board,
Fi 8 is a perspective View of the, toy, showing the parts thereof arranged to construct a chair having the sides, the seat and the back, and
Fig. 9 is a perspective view of certain" parts of the toy arranged to provide arack.
Referring more especially to these drawings, l designates the main frame of the toy, and which comprises the vertical side pieces 2, the lower transverse brace 3 and the upper transverse brace4. The brace 3' is arranged in a horizontal plane, and has its ends connected in any suitable manner as by means of a mortise and tenon joint 5 with the inner adjacent faces of the vertical side pieces 2. The upper transverse brace 4 is secured upon the rear edges of the vertical. side pieces 2, as shown at 6. The lower ends of the side pieces 2 of the main frame extend downwardly beyond the transverse brace 3, and constitute bracing means 7 for the supporting legs 8. These supporting I legs are held 1n place as shown. For instance, the under face. of the brace 3 adjacent its ends is provided with right angled pieces 9 which are disposed'as shown clearly in the drawings particularly Fig. 4 to provide spaces between the extensions and the angle pieces. The legs may be any suitable construction or design,
the horizontal flanges of the angle pieces I preferably as shown, j
and the upper innerfaces of these legs have will enter the groove 10 of the legs, thereby connecting the legs to the main structure of the toy. It will be noted that by reason of the le engaging between the angle pieces an the extensions 7, the legs are thoroughly braced relatively to each other. The inner faces of the vertical side pieces 2 of the main structure are provided with a plurality of transverse rooves 11- 12 and 13. The inner faces 0 the vertical slde pieces 2 of the main structure neartheir forward and rear edges are also provided with vertical ooves 14 and 15.
The toy inc udes a pair of boards 16 and 17, each of which comprises the middle body portion 18 and the end cleats 19, which are connected to the'opposite end edges of the body part 18 by means of the grooves 20.
When the arts of the toy are arranged in compact orm, for insertion in a case,
such as shown at 21 in Fig. 1, these boards are arranged to engage the vertical grooves 14 and 15 as shown clearly in Fig. 1, thereby providing the opposite sides of a container for the various other parts of the toy. In order to hold the boards 16 and. 17 1n the grooves 14 and 15, a holding member 22 is provided. This holding member 22 comprises the end elements 23 which are connected by a rod 24, and these elements 23 are disposed to engage the uppermost transverse grooves 13 of the inner faces of the vertical sides 2 of the main structure. It will be noted that the end elements 22 will overlie or engage the upper edges of the two boards 16 and 17 and act to retain them'in position.
However, before placing the holding member 7 22 in such position, the other parts of the toy are placed in the container formed by the main structure and the opposite boards 16 and 17. In fact the other parts of the toy consist ofthe legs, the envelop and paper holder 25, and the ornament piece or member 26, such as shown in Figs. 3, 4: and 6.
By a careful inspection of the drawings, it is obvious as to how the various parts are arranged to construct the various articles as disclosed. For example, in. Fig. 2, one of the boards, say for instance, the board 16 is arranged to engage the opposite uppermost transverse grooves 13 of the vertical side pieces of the main structure, thereby providing either a stand, table or game board. The reason that this structure can be used as a game board is that the board 16 on one face thereof is provided with a checker board field or face 27, the use of which is clearly apparent. However, it is to be understood that the other board 17 can be used to form the stand or table.
Referring to Fig. 3, it will also be noticed that the board 16 also constitutes the horiof the toy, and it will be observed that the board 16 enga es the lowermost transverse zontal portion of a simple" form of desk, while the board 17 is employed as a back of the desk. In fact, the board 17 notonlyconsame grooves, but in the rear.
stit utes the back of this simple form of desk,
eferring to Fig. 4, it is obvious that the. I
of the board 16.
In Fig. 8 a chair is constructed by parts 5 grooves 11, while the board 17 engages the rear vertical grooves 15 of the side pieces 2 of the main structure. The board 17. rests upon the board 16 in this case, so as to provide a chair back, whereas the board 16 constitutes a chair seat, and the side uprights 2 of the main structure act as the sides or arms of the chair. If desired the board 16 canbe disposed in engagement with the intermediate groove 12 instead of in the groove 11, and as in Fig. 3 engaged with the uppermost grooves 13.
Fig. 9 discloses a rack, which may be constructed from certain parts of the toy. This rack employs the main structure, and the holder 22, the end elements 23 of which engage the uppermost grooves 13 of the side pieces of the main structure.
