a citizen ofthe United States of America,
residing. in the county, city, and State of New York, have invented certain new-and useful Improvements, in Luminous Indicating Devices, of which the following is a clear, and exact description.
The present invention is a form of the luminous indicating device and appliance shown and claimed in my pending application Serial No. 146,644 filedFebruary 5th, 1917. The purpose of the present invention is to provide simple and ready forms of luminous indicating devices and appliancefor carrying the device so that they may-be united by slight pressure. i
Figure 1 represents a switchplate having thereon the usual on and off switch buttons and provided with the appliance and device attached to the securing means. The luminous indicating device 1 is in the form of a button and consists of a thin plate 2 of metal preferably brass having a luminous material 8 secured thereto in any The carrier 3 for the indicating device consists of a plate 4 of metal also preferably brass having a flange 'thereon thereby fcrmin a receptacle `6 for the indicating device. he distance across the carrier at the flange is smaller than the distance across the indicating device, approximately threeone-thousandths of an inch, so -that the indicating d evice may be snapped under the fiange and into the receptacle 6. To secure the indicating device under the flange, one edge of the device is first placed underfthe flange and then snapped into the receptacle by slight pressure thereon. When Specification of Letters Patent.

It is however not necessary that both the plate 2 and flange 5 be flexible the same effect may be obtained by making either of them so. e e
I prefer to make the indicating device with a fiange 7 thereon. The luminous material 8 is secured to one face of a translucent material like celluloid `9. The celluloid is placed on the plate 2 with its uncovered side out, the light rays being visible therethrough. I also prefer to form the Celluloid with a convex outer face. This is accomplished by cutting the Celluloid slightly larger than the size of the plate, placing it under the flan e in a convex form and then pressing the ange 7 down over the Celluloid. f
The entire indicating device is preferably curved as shown in Fig. 4, so that it may be readily pressed into the receptacle 6 and give a more attractive appearance.
In a modification shown in Figs. 6 and 7, the flange 5b on the carrier plate 4 is slightly curved inwardly. `An annular ring 10 with inclined sides 1l and provided witha fiange 12, is pressed against the curved flange 5b and fits closely thereunder, the bottom of the inclined sides binding against the flange 5b. An indicating device is snapped under the flange l2 which holds the indicating device in place. Instead of snapping the 'inunder the flange it may first be placed inthe receptacle 6 and the ring 1.0 then pressed into its position.
Any suitable means may be provided for securing the carrier to the object to be in dicated. The drawing shows a hole in the plate 4 through which a screw or other securing means are passed wherewith vthe plate may besecured and then the indicating device snapped into the receptacle. The receptacle may be formed directly in the object to be indicated as shown in Fig. 8,- an abutment 5a being formed therein and the device snapped thereunder. In this figure the walls and abutment of the object are stiff but the spring of the device is sufficient to -allow it being snapped under the abutment.
