UNITED FATE ANGELICA WAELTY, OLE SOUTH SAN FBAN'CISGQCALIFORNIA.
CLAMP.
Be it known that I, ANGELICA TVnnnrY, a citizen of the United States, resldmg at South San Francisco, in the county of San 'Mateo and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Clamps, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to devices for securing cover cloths upon ironing boards and.
aims toprovide a device of this character which is simple of construction and use and which may be readily secured in position upon the board.
To this end the invention comprises a clamp positioned longitudinally along the underside of an ironing board and provided 1 with means for holding the edges of the cover cloth after the latter has been stretched over the upper side of the board.
The invention also consists of novel means for attaching the edges of a cover cloth to the clamp and for ho ding the said edges in position, this means providing for the ready removal and I replacing of the cover clot when desired. V
The invention further includes the following novel details of construction, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
dicated at 10 and may be of any desired form or construction, either of the type which carries its own supports, or a board independent of its-supporting means.
The invention resides in the manner of securing a cover cloth 11 to the board and comprises a clamp 12, which includes a base bar 13 and a cover bar 14.
The base bar 13 is formed from a strip of metal having a reduced right angular ex- S pecification of Letters Patent. 7
Patented. June 1, 1920.
Application filed January 25',-19.19.- Serial No. 273,066.:
' tension at one end thereof to provide a combined spacing and hinge bar 15, the hinge being formed by bending over the end of the extension 15 for the reception of the hinge pin. 7
The cover bar 14 is also formed from a strip of metal, one end of which is bifun cated and rolled as shown at 16, so that the hinge pin 17 may be passed through these roller ends and throu h the end of the end of the extensionv 15. this means the bar 14 is hinged to the bar 13, with the two bars spaced apart. The opposite end of the bar 14 is longitudinally slotted as. shown at 18 for the reception of a fastening device, in the form of a pivoted link 19 secured to one end of thebar 13. This link is adapted to enter the slot 18 and is provided with a cross bar 20 which is pivotally secured thereto so as to be turned transversely acrossthe slot 18 of the bar 14.
Projecting at right angles from the bar 13, is a row of spaced pointed elements 21,
in. the form of pins struck up from the bar 13. These pins are of suflicient length to slightly contact with the adjacent face of the bar 14 and bridge the intervening spaces between the two bars.
The clamp is secured to the under face of the ironing board'lO' through the medium of screws 22, which pass through openingsv 23 provided in the bar 13 and when used one edge of the cover cloth is engaged over the pointed elements 21. and then stretched around the board and the other edge en gaged. The cover bar 14 is then secured in position through the medium of a pivoted bar 20.
Thedevice as shown and described comif prises an exceedingly simple means for accomplishing the purpose intended, being cheap to manufacture and easily securedto the board. It is susceptible of various changes in its form, proportions and minor details of constructionand the right is reserved to make such changes as will properly fall within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described the invention, what is claimed is: I
1. The combination with an ironing board,
of a base bar secured along the longitudinal center and upon the under sideof the board,
a cover bar hingedly secured to and spaced from one end of the base bar, fastening sheet of metal, pointed elements disposed longitudinally along the center of the said bar and formed by providing spaced'pairs' of divergently arranged slits andloy bendangles to the bar and a right angular extension provided upon one end of the bar, a cover bar hingedly secured to the end of the said extension and means located at one end of the bars for securing them in sub- 15 stantially'parallel relation. r
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature. v TANGELICA WAELTY.
