Description

J. SZAKCI.
SAW HUNG CLAMP. APPLICATION mm MAY 8. 19:9.
' Pamnted June 1 1920.
attczmq JGHN SZAKO, OF MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN.
SAW-FILING dLAMY.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 1", 1920.
Application filed May 8, 1919. Serial No. 295,696.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JOHN SZAKG, a citizen of the United States, residing at Milin the county of Milwaukee and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Saw-Filing' Clamps, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates. to saw filing clamps, and has for one of its objects to improve the construction and increase the efficiency and utility of devices of this character.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which may be set up at any convenient point and adjusted to saws of different thicknesses, and which may be moved from place to place as re uired.
nother object of the invention is to provide a device of this characterincluding a clamping device having a detachable and separable frame so that the parts can be separated and occupy less space for shipping or storage, or to place the same in a carrier or box when not in use.
Vith these and other objects in view the invention consists in certain novel features of construction as hereafter shown and described and then specifically pointed out in the claims, and in the drawings illustrative of the preferred embodiment of the invention.
Figure l is an end elevation of the im proved device,
Fig. 2 is a side view of the same, and,
. Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail view of the clamping portion of the improved device.
The improved device embodies two holding members, preferably in U-shapewhereby spaced side members 10-11 are produced with a supporting socket 12 at the juncture of the side members. Two of the holding members will be employed and dis; posed in spaced relation to correspond to the length of the saw to be filed. y The side members 10 41 of the holding members are. provided with inwardly d1- rooted guidedeviees in the form of pins 13-44. Bearing upon the inner faces 0 the member 10 1s a clamping member 15, while a similar clamping member 16 bears against the confronting face of the member 11, the two members clamping jaws of the mproved device. The member 15 is rigidly coupled to'the or standards 27.
" p'o the members 27.
'%a stud f screw or other suitable device 29.
15-16 forming. the
side portions 10 of the holding devices by suitable clumping screws or like devicesrcpresented at 17.
The clamping member 16 is acljustably connected to the side member 11 of the support b an adjusting screw represented at 18. T ie member 18 is so arranged that it will move the member 16 toward or avvtg from the member 15 as may be require thus providing a movable jaw to clam the saw in position, as will be obvious. hen the membe 16 is moved the pins 14 serve to hold it in position and prevent displacement during the movement, while the members l of the jaw 10 hold the clamping member 15 likewise in position and prevent displacement.
The members 15-16 ma y be of any required length and arc supported and rein-- forced by longitudinally directed laterally projecting ribs 19. a
The supports 10---l1 may be arranged in any suitable manner for use but will preferably be employed in connection with a supporting frame formed of tubular members as illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2. The side portions of the frame are substantially the same structure and a description of one will sufiice for each. Each side member is formed of a. plurality of tubular sections 21 afpd 22 threaded at ends to engage in a T member 23, the T numbers of the opposite supports or stand ards lk-l2 bcinr c upled by a tie member 24. At their lower ends the standard momthcir confronting hers 22 are adjustable in a reducing T meniber 25, the lateral portions of the T members being coupled by a tie member 26 while the depending T member is arranged to receive .the final. supports of the sides At'its lower end each of. the members 27 is 'provided with an ofiset' 28 apertured to receive a holding screw, if re uired. The T members 25 are also provi with set screws 37 to-adjustably supmember 12 of each holding deviee-is received in the upper ends 0 the members .21 and held in position b a set y this arrangement the frame members may be quick so) use the parts can e're, iii-separated and packed in small'libx of?) or suitable carrier.
The side portion 10 is provided with aperforated our 31 while the slde member 11 is up for use, and. when not in.
provided with anear 32. The ear-i are designed to receive the upper ends of a suitable brace device, preferably formed of telescopin sections 33--34, the sections hold in position by a Set screw 35, and with the lower end of the member 34 offset as shown at 36 to bear upon the floor, and perforpted to reoeive a holding screw or other device.
By this simple arrangement/the device may be supported in position for the operator, and may be adjusted to any required height by 1 imply changing the length 01. the brace members 33 and 34 and the mem bers 27.
[i' reqaired the socket 123 may be supported in a suitable block or in perforations in a tahle or hem-i and the frame dispensed with. The d rive may thus be readily adapted to the ltWi'ltiOll where used. and will be found very convenient For holding sues in position for filing. The teleseoping meniers of the frame may he ronstruct l of any suitable material, but will preferably he tubular and of any required strength.
Experiment has sh wn that the luluilar members employed for casings for electric conductors are practical for thepurposes of the frame, and sui h members may be employed if found convenient.

2. In a device of the class described eoaeting snppr'rl earl) including side portions in spared relation and earh having: a supporting stud. a standard delaehalily engaged by each of said studs, a brave (ltVll'l detarhably oomph-d lo earli of said support. In testimony whereof, I afiix my signature hereto.
