Description

L. GRABIEC.
y rcoLLAR SUPPORT.- *APPLICATION FILED JUNE I8. 1919.,
1,342, 106. j Patented June 1, 1920.
`H l f5 INVENTOR Lou/ls @mb/ec.
ATTORNEY LOUIS GRABIEC, 0F MUSKEGON, MIGHIGAN COLLAR-SUPPORT.
Speccation of Letters Patent.
Patented June 1, 1920.
Application filed June 18, 1919. Serial No. 305,077.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, Louis' GRABIEG, a citizen of Poland, residing at Muskegon, county of Muskegon, and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Collar-Supports, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in articles of personal wear, and has as its special object the provision of means whereby the collar and attached lapels of a gentlemans coat may be held in desirable adjustment.
A further object is to provide means whereby the coat is prevented from spreading apart when unbuttoned, and
A still further object is to provide means whereby the attachment is held in position irrespective of the ordinary movement of the wearer or in removing the coat.
These and other like objects are attained by the novel construction `and combination of parts hereinafter described and shown in the accompanying drawings, a material part of this disclosure, and in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view illustrating the application of the invention.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the support in detail. l
Fig. 3 is an enlarged fragmentary perspective view showing one of the ends of the attachment, and
Fig. 4C is a further enlarged transverse sectional view taken on line H of Fig. 3.
It is a well known fact that coats as worn by men are made of soft material, their collars beingstifened by horse hair or other relatively stiff fabric, the bers of which work out, causing annoyance to the wearer.
It is also desirable at times to have the coat unbuttoned, and yet prevented from se arating at the front for obvious reasons.
eferring to the drawings, the numeral 10 indicates a conventional type of coat collar, from which extend the lapelsll, the same being downturned over the breast or bosom of the garment which is ordinarily provided with buttons along the edges 12.
The invention consists in providing a band of relatively stiff but flexible metal having an arcuately curved rear portion 15 from which extends side elements partially twisted at 16, the twisted portions 17 terminating in rounded ends 18, the same being formed so as to be readily inserted within the collar of the garment as clearly indicated in Fig. l.
It is known that such devices have been in use and which have failed in their purpose, primarily from their shifting from an adjusted position soas to be partially exposed, which in the present invention is prevented, first by the use of prong 20, engageable within the garment at the folded upper portion thereof, immediately below the collar, while at the same time the prong is turned slightly rearward so that it may not project.
In addition, a plurality of spurs or serrations 22, extend downwardly and rearwardly from the lower edge of the extending elements 17, the same being adapted to engage with the body or breast of the coat below the lapels, holding the support in a secure position, while the inherent resiliency of the material of which the support is made, maintains the collar in a proper erect position and the sides of the coat closed.
From the foregoing it will be seen that an easily applied device has been presented whereby a coat collar may be securely supported, and that the supporting elements are maintained in position irrespective of the movements of the wearer.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
As a new article of manufacture, a metallic support'strip suited to be received within the collar of a garment, and prongs on the upper and lower edges at the ends of said strip adapted to engage in the material of the garment whereby said support strip is held in operative position.
In testimony whereof I have aiiixed my signature.
LOUIS GRABIEC.
