To all whom 2'17, may correwn Be it known th i. iu'su'r liinorru iiio e citizen of the residing at )LLlliQ-S'. Ihiladelphie, iii. tlu'eeounty oi? Phihidelyhio and State oi Pennsylvania, hove invented new and useful linproven'ients iii il ii'ulou Cleaners and Wipers, of which the toilowing is a specification.
My invention relates to a new and useful improvement in rotary indow cleaners and wipers, and has for its object to prov de an exceedingly simple and efi'eotive device of this descrimion, which may he applied to car or other Windows ei'iahling; u 1: son from the inside to remove moisture snowy sleet or other sul'istsnces which our tend to obscure the vision through the wiiulow and also to wipe the window.
A still further object of my invention is to so construct the device that power may he applied thereto either by an ii'uiependeut motor or from the axles of the cur whereby the cleaner may he operated continuously or intermittently under the control of the motorman or other attendant.
A still further object of my invention is to provide for the adjustment of one of the belt rollers so as to tighten the belts \i hen needed.
With these ends in *iew, this invention consists in the details oi? construction and combination of elements hereinafter set forth and then specifically designated by the claim.
In order that those skilled in the art to which this invention appertuins rosy understand hon to make and use the some, I will describe its construction in detaih referring by numernls'to the accompanying drawing forming a port of this u iaplicution, in. which Figure l is a front View of the window showing my improved rotary ('l(:.iilll' and wiper applied thereto.
Fig. 2 is a section at the Fig. 1.
In carrying out my invention as here @111 bodied, 1 represents a window frame currying the glass 52, and to the outside of this frame is secured the journal brackets P, and l.
In the upper pair of brack s 3 jour lulled the spindles 5 carrying the heliroller (.3, this roller having the flange. '4' upon the ends thereof.
In the lower brackets 4i: is jourrieled the line 2-2 or dicotecl et- 10 in order spindle which carries the belt roller 9 and the has-es of these brackets ore siottecl as inthet this lower roller may he sdiusted vertiu y.
The roller 5.? also carries ilenq'es indicated 11, 12 represents two l'iund belts which run upon two rollers (i and 9 and are guided in their movements upon these rollers by the 7 and 1.1 as will be readily under stood. These belts may be ins de of any suitable materiel. or may he in. the form of linked chains or Wire cuhles so long as they are .iuliirientiy flexible to travel around the rollers 13 represent the two cleaners and the ends of each of which are secured to ;-he belts in such manner that when the belts are put in motion first one of these cleuners will.
of the W be drawn eci the face the other is r out of contact wit said glass, but turn when passingorer one of the rollers will come in contact with the glass and he drawn over the surface thereof. This will permil' the cleaning of the glass and then the wiping of the same, and these cleaners and Wipers may he of any construction or of any suitable material preferably having a rubber strip for contact with the glass.
The spindles 5 and. 8 have secured thereon the grooved pulleys 1% over which runs the hand belt 15, and this belt passes through suitable holes in the Window frame and also runs over the pulleys 16 secured to the inner "face of the window frame so as to bring this hand belt in easy reach ofthe iiiotoriiniii or other attendant. Thus it will be seen that the notorinen may readily grasp this belt and pull the some upward or down and in so doing cause the belt rolle to re i'olve thereby causing the belts to travel with the. cleaners and Wipers which l or will Yllly clean and Wipe the n (low above described zwoicliiiig the he t of the ii'iotorman opening the ,i'lIh'lOW o i the outside thereof or u u the outside for this purpose thus protecting: him from exposure to the elements.
The belt rollers may he either made of \VOOfl or metal or pulleys used in the plaice oi these rollers said p lie s being ecured upon the spindles 5 31 dented to receive the belts and cause ti- L ()i? course I do for the exact details ot shown as these cleaning iimiis of the ap mnded claim without 6.9- pm'tmg from the splrlt of my mviesmien.
