GEORGE B. EHRIG, Ol'Y WASHINGTON, DISTRICT Oil1 COLUMBIA.
ROTARY TOOTI-IBRUSI-I.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 18, 1920.
Application filed October 2, 1319. Serial No. 327,846.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known thatl, GEORGE B. Ennio, a citizen of the United States, residing at Vashington, in the District of Columbia, have invented new and useful Improvements in Rotary Toothbrushes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in rotary tooth brushes and the principal object of the invention is to provide a rotary frame contained in a case with ine-ans for rotating the same by a reciprocating handle and provided with means jfor engaging the brush.V
Another object of the invention is to provide means whereby the handle is reciprocated by a movement of the finger or thumb of the user'.V
The invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the severalY parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claims.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like Ycharacters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Y Figure l is a sectional view of the invention.
F ig. 2 is a section on line 2 2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a section on line 3-3 thereof. In these views l indicates the case for containing the rotatable frame and at one end the. casing is provided with a reduced part 2.Y The rotatable frame 3 consists ofthe disks 4L and 5 connected together by the rods 6 which are of square shape in cross section. The disk A carries the socket; member 'T which is screw threaded to receive the screw threaded end of the shaft 8 of the brush 9 so that the brush and shaft may be detached from the frame whenever desired. The. socket member 7 lies within the reduced end of the case and this reduced end is provided with an opening to receive the shaft 8. A screw threaded bushing or nut l0 is located in the end Yof the casing and is fiXedly connected with the disk 5. A screw threaded shaft 1l passes through said bushing and at its outer end this shaft carries a handle l2 which is adapted to receive the finger or thumb of the user so that said shaft may be moved longitudinally through the case. The inner end of the shaft has swiveled thereto a plate 13V which is provided with notches lil: to receive the rods 6.
lt will thus beV seen that when the shaft ll is reciprocatedthe bushing or nut l() will be rotated so that the frame 3 will be caused to revolve withiir the case and thus motion will be 'transmitted to the brush.
In either case the brush will be given a rotary movement by the reciprocating movement of the shaft and handle so that the teeth may be cleansed with but little effort.
lt is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features. of my invention'will be readily-apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope ofthe appended claims.
1What l claim is l. A device of the class described compris ing a casing, a rotating frame therein, said Y frame' consisting of a pair of disks and rods connecting the disks together, a brush, means for connecting the same with the frame, a reciprocating rod carried by the shaft, means for causing the reciprocating movement of the shaft to rotate the frame and a handle on said shaft.
2. A device of the class described comprising a casing, a rotatable frame therein, aY brush, means for connecting the same with the frame, a nut in the case connected with the frame, a screw shaft engaging said nut and a handle on the shaft. Y
In testimony whereof I afiiX my signature.
