Description

- S. J DWYER.
lmprovemeht in Leader Bracket.
No. 123,877. Patented Feb. 20, 1872.1
PATENT OEEIoE.
STEPHEN J. DWYER, OF ALBANY, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN LEADER-BRACKETS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 123,877, dated February 20, 1872.
Specification describing a new and Improved Leader Bracket, invented by STEPHEN J. DWYER, of Albany, in the county of Albany and State of New York.
Figure 1 is a detail horizontal section of my improved device taken through the line 00 m, Fig. 2. Fig. 2 is a detail vertical section of the same taken through the line y y, Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
My invention has for its object to furnish an improved bracket for leaders or conductorspouts, which shall be simple in construction, conveniently applied, and reliable in use; and it consists in the construction and combination of the various parts of the bracket, as hereinafter more fully described.
A is the spike that is designed to be driven into the wall of the building. Upon the outer end of the spike A is formed an upwardly-projecting arm, B, which is slotted vertically to receive the band or strap 0. The outer edges of the slot through the arm B are rounded off, as shown in Fig. 1, to avoid bending the band 0 at a sharp angle and at the same time to allow the said band to be drawn to tighten it upon the leader or pipe. The arm B is grooved upon its outer side to receive the wedge-key D, said groove being extended through the outer part of the spike A to allow the wedge D to be driven further in to draw the band (J more tightly around the leader or pipe. The
ends of the strap 0 are overlapped and grooved transversely, so that the bend or bead thus formed may be passed through the slot in the arm B sufficiently far to receive the point of the wedge-key D, so that by driving in the said key the said strap or band may be drawn tightly around the leader or pipe, the beveled or rounded edges of the slot through the arm B allowing the band C to slip or draw as the wedge-key D is driven in. The band or strap 0 may be a piece of band or sheet iron, or a wire, as may be desired. By this construction the leader or pipe may be conveniently detached by driving out the keyD without loosening or disturbing the spike A.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. The spike A, having a slotted arm, B, formed upon its outer end to adapt it to receive the band 0 and wedge D, substantially as herein shown and described, and for the purpose set forth.
2. The combination of the spike A, slotted arm B, band 0, and wedge-key D with each other, substantially as herein shown and described, and for the purpose set forth.
STEPHEN J. DWYER.
